First High End GPU purchase ...

What was it...I'll start :

BFG Nvidia 8800 GTX $599 (Lifetime Warranty) included a free T-Shirt which I faithfully wore until it faded to oblivion shortly after they were no more.

Used it until I replaced it with a:

Radeon HD 5970

It was a HIS ATI X1900XT.

It was also the first and only GPU I ever fluid cooled.

Windows XP Pro 64 either service pack 2 or 3 at the time.

The thing I loved about those X series GPU's is they introduced GDDR4 VRAM a year before Invidia. At the time even the flagship Invidia GPU's were still running GDDR3 VRAM.

I think I had it on an Intel build Pentium Dual Core with the Hyper Threading or Hyper Transport can't remember Intels designation for that tech. It was a 3.6GHz CPU and I think I was running DDR 667 or 800MHz 8GB (4x2) at the time,

Man that had to of been about 15 or 17 years ago.

The most expensive GPU I've bought was a R9 380 about 5 years ago.  It probably wouldn't qualify as high end, but it was in the middle of the pack for the time, and it was the best I'd ever bought. I felt like I was really splurging on a $300 graphics card. To think what you would have to pay for a similarly placed card (in terms of performance) makes me chuckle to myself uncomfortably. Add a thousand dollars to that and you'd be close to the price of a 6800XT.

This current generation was my first ever high end gpu I managed to get a 6800xt midnight black off amd direct. I've never shouted so loud in my life. It has been a great card for me and will always remain in my gpu collection.

I guess it would have been the AMD FX-8350 Black Edition

This thing was a beauty! Replaced it with the CPU I'm currently using, the Ryzen 7 2700X

I vaguely remember adding a graphics card to an older system maybe as far back as the ‘90s. Bought at Best Buy for around $50 because it had the required number of shaders or something that a game I wanted to play required. Built my first system 12/17 w MSI Duke 1070ti paired w r5 1600. It’s been rock solid w from what I’ve seen better than usual overclock, low temps, very pleased with it.

They need to give free gear when we buy these cards. Like I bought a 6900xt, no game with it and no gear. Kinda sad.
