software driver support

Hi there, I have two computer systems with corrupt AMD drivers.   I'm looking for help.

One computer is an old GATEWAY DX480

The second computer is a HP PAVILLION 470

Both systems are out of warranty.  Can anyone advise me how to do a clean install and reset with the proper drivers for these systems??

I tried to contact AMD directly, but apparently you have to be a business owner?  I'm not a business owner, just personal use.

Any support would be greatly appreciated?!   Thank you

Colinf

You first need to know what hardware you have installed to find drivers for it.

Gateway is part of Acer. So I would open a ACER SUPPORT Ticket and see if they can guide you to the Gateway Download page for your Gateway computer.

You need to go to HP Support and input your HP PC to find the download page.

One way is by downloading a free small program called SPECCY.  Run the program on both PCs to find out what hardware and software you have installed.

You can download AMD Drivers from here : https://www.amd.com/en/support

If your Gateway has a HD 5xxx/6xxx  series GPU card then you will have a choice of only two Drivers to download for Windows 10;

WHQL - 2015  or  BETA 2016.

Ignore if you TV is misrepresented in Device Manager. If you can go to your TV manufacturer Support page they might have a Monitor driver to download  if not don't fret about it as long as the TV works normally with your PC.

If any of your PCs (Gateway or HP) uses Intel drivers you can download and use Intel own updating driver App - Intel Driver & Support Assistant.

GPU is the popular general name for a PC  Video card.

GPU mean Graphics Processor Unit which is actually the Graphic Card video Chip. But generally most people call the Video Card GPU as a shortcut.

You Gateway DX4380 is a Desktop PC. I found Gateway Support that has all the drivers including the OEM AMD Driver for your APU: https://www.gateway.com/gw/en/US/content/drivers-downloads

Seems like that PC may not be compatible with Windows 10 since it shows  only Windows 8/8.1 or older Windows drivers.

From Speccy it shows you have an old AMD APU Processor A8-5500 with HD7560D Integrated Graphics.

APU is a processor with built-in Integrated Graphics.

Here is the last Desktop APU AMD driver for your Integrated Graphics: https://www.amd.com/en/support/apu/amd-series-processors/amd-a8-series-apu-for-desktops/a8-5500-rade...

It has Windows 10 and older Windows version drivers including Windows  8/8.1. But I would use Gateway OEM AMD Driver first to see if your PC works normally or not. If it does then you can try and upgrade using AMD own driver.

As to your HP Pavilion PC there are several models so you will need to input your PC Serial Number at HP SUPPORT so that it will connect you with your HP Support Download page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/desktops

Thank you for the response.

I was hoping to use a utility to try and download the AMD drivers directly.

Your idea is a good one too.

I did manage to get the HP Pavilion computer running.   I didn't use the AMD utility diagnostic software though.   I downloaded the make and model of the graphics card drivers directly.   I also only chose 'minimal install'.   It seems to run.   The computer doesn't work with the 'adrenaline' driver.   I think I ended up getting an older driver, which seems to work.

Radeon 21.5.1 for Radeon 9.    I really didn't know what I was doing, so I think I got lucky to get it to work.    ts a 2021 driver.  Maybe I should refuse updates?   Because I think the corrupted update of the 'adrenaline' driver, got me into the mess in the first place.

I'm not sure why.  I have a secondary problem.   I am using a TCL TV as my monitor.   The computer recognizes it as 'beyond'' tv.  I have no idea what BEYOND TV is.  But it seems to work?

Have a good day!   And yes, your suggested solution is actually a better way to solve the problem than downloading the drivers direct....my way worked...but it was a lot harder and more complicated!

That is interesting, I'm not sure why.   But the AMD UTILITY, recognized my computer as need the new 'adrenaline' driver.   It installed that one, and came back error '1603'.   Caused all kinds of problems.   Eventually I downloaded the old driver.  But it took a long time to figure out.

Thanks!

Which GPU card does Speccy show as being installed in both the Gateway and HP PCs?

I did google your Gateway PC and it mentioned it came with a HD5xxx GPU card which is why I post what I posted in my previous reply.

Most likely both PC has unsupported GPU cards in them.

Please post what GPUs you have installed in both PCs via SPECCY.

If either the Gateway or HP Pc has a supported GPU card post back.

When installing AMD Drivers Windows must be fully updated via Windows Update.

Then download and run DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) with the internet disconnected and deleting any AMD Driver Installation folder at C:\AMD.

After DDU reboots back into Windows run the Full AMD Package and see if it installs successfully or not.

Hi there, sorry.   I'm kind of a 'novice' user in understandings of AMD card drivers.

I'm not really sure what GPU means?

But yes, I am familiar with SPECCY.

Here are the GATEWAY DX 4380 SPECCY results (hopefully I can give screenshot).  Thanks again.

I'm really, really hoping that I finally got the right driver for the HP PAVILLION 570.    I ended up installing the....RADEON 21.1.5 driver.

Both these computers, I had troubles getting the drivers directly from their web pages.   That is why I tried to download directly from AMD.

What does GPU mean??    What does it stand for??
