Radeon X580 for old software

i there

I have a problem.
I'm using Gmax (3d Modelling software) extensively and I have the problem that the software loses the connection with the driver and crash the program.

The last Gmax release have been in about 2010, but it is the only 3d software I can use and I need it.

Some suggestions about the best drivers for my GPU?

I have got some improvements using Adreanalin 2020-21-6-2 drivers, but is it far from a solid solution.

Does somebody have an Idea?

That is a very antique legacy GPU card. The only official AMD Drivers for that GPU card are for Windows Vista: https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/legacy-graphics/ati-radeon-x-series/ati-radeon-x5xx-series

I doubt that any Windows 10 driver will be compatible with your GPU Card. You can let Windows 10 Update install the best compatible AMD Driver for your GPU card and see if it work correctly or not.

Your GPU card just doesn't have the technology to run today's newer AMD Drivers correctly.

The GPU I'm using is the Sapphire Raden RX580 with 8Gb graphic memory, and the suggested drivers in the AMD Drivers Download page is "Adrenalin 21.11.3".

I don't play games on it, I use it at 4k resolution for 3d modelling with a Ryzen 7 5800X CPU and Gen 3.0 2Tb SSD.

In my experience, I noted that only Gmax is having problems. Being a 2007 piece of software, I'm aware, that it is obsolete, but it is the only 3d software free and with the necessary plug-ins I need for my contents.

Of course, there's newer software for the matter, but they are too expensive (3ds Studio) or too different in the learning phase for me.

Some suggestion?

Okay, I see that you left out the "R" in the X580 GPU card in your Title.  That makes a huge difference.

I read that GMAX is based on Autodesk 3DSMAX program. AMD has a Plugin for Radeon ProRender for 3DSMax.

Not really sure if you post there you will get any help, but here is the link if interested: https://community.amd.com/t5/3ds-max-discussions/bd-p/3ds-max-discussions

From GMAX Tutorial (https://www.tutorialboneyard.com/gmax-tutorials/ it mentions "One of the most popular 3D modeling software is 3ds Max, also called 3d studio max. There is also Gmax, which is free, and based on an earlier version of 3ds Max."

So maybe someone at 3DSMax Radeon Prorender might be able to help you there. Even though it is for Radeon ProRender Plugin but possibly someone can help you find an answer to your question.

But that is all I got. Maybe some other User that runs GMAX can help you.

NOTE: Since GMAX is based on an earlier version of 3DSMAX maybe Radeon Prorender Plugin will be compatible unless it is based on a too old of a version of 3DSMAX.
