Ive seen a few post about fan curves working etc. The one thing I noticed last time my computer black screen and restarted in the middle of a game was the fan curves was reset back to just flat. Im wondering if they are related?

After the crash, all wattman settings are reset to defaults including fan curve

I tend to use more aggressive fan settings after some bad experiences

my motherboard, like many lately, have options for chassis fans as well

as long as the rig is clean fans do not make much noise even at 100% speed, dust can foul fans which can make them very noisy
