should i always use the latest amd drivers (optional) or stick with the recommend drivers (WHQL) always seeking best performance for star citizen.. thanks.

potentially controversial take incoming. 

if you're on an older gpu, dont update your drivers unless theres a specific feature you want from newer ones, or if a specific game you're buying/playing gets official support. if not? keep the ones you have for a while. not worth the high risk of an issue or bug cropping up when you update. the official drivers from last month specifically have been utterly riddled with issues for many people. source: vega 64 owner since 2018.

if you're on a new gpu (RX 6000 currently), update semi-regularly, as those gpu's get lots of optimizations after their release. but the issues mentioned above still stand.

99.9% of the time, you wont see ANY improvements from updating drivers unless specific game support is added, like after a new game is released and gets driver optimisations.

@thanatoast is completely correct. The chances of actually losing performance / having a buggier experience are actually higher than the chances of getting any benefit when you GPU is more than 2 years old.

As long as they don´t specifically say on the release notes that there is a fix for your GPU or a new game that you want to play, you will 99% get no practical advantage.
