AMD announced a flurry of processors at CES 2023 this week. The new mobile and desktop CPUs build on the launch of the Ryzen(TM) 7000 family of chips in the Fall of 2022, and they provide new options for efficiency aficionados, gamers, and content creators.
Here are the highlights:
New AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Processors for Desktop:
In desktop, AMD is expanding its range of Ryzen 7000 processors with two new product lines.
Last year, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D debuted as the world's fastest desktop gaming processor thanks to its 64MB of 3D stacked V-Cache(TM) technology. The response from gamers has been tremendous, and AMD has heard the feedback: the company is widening the X3D product family with new Ryzen 7000 models.
At CES this year, AMD announces three new models based on 3D V-Cache technology: The Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Ryzen 9 7900X3D, and Ryzen 9 7950X3D.
The 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D offers significantly better gaming performance than the 5800X3D, as expected. But the real news is that, for the first time, 3D V-Cache is coming to the Ryzen 9 family. This means users can have the ultimate gamer *and* creator performance in a single chip. The 12-core Ryzen 9 7900X3D and 16-core Ryzen 9 7950X3D combine high core clocks and core counts with almost 150MB of on-chip memory to boost game performance like never before, while delivering top-tier multithreaded performance for content creators. These processors will be available to purchase starting February 2023.
Additionally, AMD is introducing three new Ryzen 7000 processor models, all of which are priced lower than their ‘X-series’ counterparts, all of which include a bundled AMD Wraith cooler, and all of which are overclockable: the six-core Ryzen 5 7600; the eight-core Ryzen 7 7700; and the 12-core Ryzen 9 7900. All of these new chips are spec’d at a low 65-watt TDP to offer amazing energy efficiency for anyone who wants to build a power-sipping system. For even more performance, enthusiasts who are interested in overclocking will find they can easily unlock a big boost by enabling one-click Precision Boost Overdrive (PBO) in the free ‘Ryzen Master’ utility. These new models will be available for purchase starting January 10, 2023.
These new low-power models, and the new X3D processors, both join the Ryzen 7000 X-series chips already in market. Collectively, these processors cover a wide gamut of use cases and price points for powerful gamer and content creator systems. And the AMD Socket AM5 motherboard platform that powers AMD Ryzen 7000 series processors is similarly designed to scale; AMD has pledged to support the socket standard for years to come, delivering true longevity to customers who invest in the platform.
New AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Processors for Mobile:
In 2023 AMD is deploying an array of five dedicated silicon solutions, each intended to serve different types of users, from entry-level everyday laptops, to elite content creator and gamer powerhouses.
AMD's Ryzen 7030 series delivers serious hardware for mainstream price points. With up to 8 ‘Zen 3’ cores, the high overall performance is impressive, and the built-in Radeon graphics are built to handle entry-level esports gaming at 720p HD.
The AMD Ryzen 7035 series offers even more performance and astonishing battery life for premium ultra-thin laptops, thanks to it’s advanced ‘Zen 3’ architecture. Built-in Radeon 600M graphics are potent thanks to AMD's RDNA(TM) 2 technology, so users can play pretty much any game at full high definition 1080p without needing a discrete graphics card. It also features a cutting-edge platform with DDR5 support, USB4 for fast external devices, and the Microsoft Pluton processor built-in for full Windows 11 security feature support.
At the top of the hill, there's the flagship AMD Ryzen 7040 and 7045 series. These two products are both built on AMD's advanced ‘Zen 4’ architecture, but they are optimized for different kinds of laptops.
The AMD Ryzen 7040 series is AMD's top-end chip for flagship and elite ultrathin laptops. These processors are built on the cutting-edge 4nm process node to deliver the best performance and battery life you can get in an ultrathin laptop. It also features built-in Radeon 700M series graphics, the fastest graphics you can get in a Windows processor thanks to the same cutting-edge RDNA 3 graphics technology that powers the new Radeon(TM) RX 7900 XTX. But the Ryzen 7040 series processors are about more than just raw performance and battery life – it also includes the new Ryzen AI engine, the first dedicated AI processing silicon on a Windows x86 processor. Ryzen AI is designed to deliver AI-driven experiences that you’ve never experienced before, in real time, right on your laptop. Laptops with these processors will first ship in March 2023.
The AMD Ryzen 7045 series is simply for gamers and content creators who want the most powerful laptops available today. With up to 16 cores, capable of processing 32 concurrent threads, it delivers the most powerful mobile processor the world has ever seen, delivering a whole new level of performance to people who need the ultimate processing power on-the-go. And with up to 80MB of on-chip memory available, AMD Ryzen 7045 series processors deliver a huge leap in game performance, too. It’s the laptop for someone who needs the most powerful mobile solution money can buy. Laptops with these processors will begin to ship in February 2023.
