Groundbreaking - 1969Groundbreaking - 1969

Founded in 1969 as a Silicon Valley start-up, the AMD journey began with dozens of employees focused on leading-edge semiconductor products. From those modest beginnings, AMD has grown into a global company achieving many important industry firsts along the way. AMD today develops high-performance computing and visualization products to solve some of the world’s toughest and most interesting challenges.

For the past few decades, and thanks to a few dedicated colleagues, former loyal AMD employees (FLAMES) stayed in contact with each other, and with AMD. Since the early 90s, many members of the FLAMES community exchanged ideas, shared pictures, and met periodically. They celebrated the good times, the challenges, and the memories of being part of an extraordinary company made of talented people with a common mission – to build great products.

The AMD Alumni Group is the new home for former employees. Members can join discussions or start a new one. They can look at photos and ads or watch TV commercials from the good old days, the 80s! More importantly, members of the AMD Alumni can stay connected, find long-lost colleagues, and meet in person at special events as mentioned by a few members of the Group:

“The AMD Alumni Group keeps me connected with my former colleagues, AMD specific news & nostalgia, along with providing some novel electronics industry articles & discussions.” Mark McClain, FAE Southwest USA, 29K specialist, Flash Marketing, 1985 - 2005.

My years at AMD were filled with exciting new technology, visiting customers around the world, and learning to focus on good qualities and owner benefits.  But the best memories are the people I worked with within every part of the company. The AMD Alumni group lets me keep track of coworkers as we grow older, forgetting the recessions and remembering the parties, and still feel like old friends.  Without Facebook.” – John Springer, Corporate Marketing, 1978 - 1985.

"Our time at AMD is something that binds us together. Thanks to the AMD Alumni Group, pooling our professional expertise earned both with AMD and outside of it, we produce real insights in discussions as well as solutions to problems which may not be so novel and unique as they appeared at first glance" – Peter Gasperini, PLD Marketing, 1990 - 1993
