Microsoft Build has become a nexus of AI developer innovation, and AMD was thrilled to showcase its technology and industry collaborations in Seattle May 21-23. In Microsoft’s kickoff keynote, CEO Satya Nadella discussed his vision for AI and commitment to the broadest array of virtual machines (VMs) on Azure AI. AMD has a long history of deep collaboration with the Microsoft team to integrate end-to-end compute and software capabilities to Azure services to fuel computing needs. During the conference, that collaboration grew with the announcement of new Azure VMs featuring the AMD Instinct™ MI300X Accelerators. The Microsoft Azure ND MI300X v5 (VMs) are now generally available with Hugging Face as one of the first customers. In announcing the new portfolio offerings, Mr. Nadella noted that the MI300X VMs offer the leading price performance for Microsoft Azure OpenAI services, delivering a strategic advantage to Azure customers.

The VM utilizes 8 AMD Instinct MI300X accelerators and ROCm™ software to deliver incredible high bandwidth memory (HBM) capacity and bandwidth for the most demanding AI workloads. AMD was delighted to share details about the new offering at Build with a joint talk featuring AMD Corporate Vice President and General Manager of Instinct GPUs, Andrew Diec..., and Microsoft Vice President and General Manager of Azure AI and HPC Infrastructure, Nidhi Chappell. They shared their perspectives on how developers can deliver breakthrough innovations with these powerful new tools.

AMD was also on the Build stage talking more about how to deploy end-to-end workflows using the powerful MI300X and the ROCm open-source development ecosystem. Ian Ferreira, Senior Director of Software Engineering, demonstrated how simple it is to pull down and deploy Hugging Face models on the Azure ND MI300X v5 VM through multiple demos across both model inference and training.

A conference wouldn’t be complete without a life-sized MI300X to celebrate Build and our joint announcement. Build attendees had an opportunity to visit the AMD AI café and create AI prompt-based visualizations for their selfie backdrops from the show. This example is just a small creative glimpse into how AI is transforming our visual world and an inspiration for the developers assembled in Seattle. We are excited to share more about our AI solutions and collaborations with Microsoft in the months ahead as together we advance.
