Rx 6700xt blackscreen after installing amd adrenalin

Hello, I just got returned my graphics card since it had an issue with blackscreening when starting games, however when I plugged the new replaced card in and started the PC, I didn't get a video output, but after restarting the PC it worked fine. However when I installed the whql-amd-software-adrenalin-edition-24.12.1-win10-win11-dec-rdna drivers for my RX 6700XT, my PC blackscreened after finishing the driver installation. After restarting my PC, it worked fine for about 2 minutes before i got another blackscreen out of the blue, so I restarted the PC and got the message that I have the wrong driver for my graphics card, so I decided to uninstall my display drivers in safe mode with networking with DDU. After restarting, it took maybe 2 minutes to recognise the graphics card in device manager and from there it worked fine, so I decided to try installing the drivers 1 more time to check if it would still not work, which it didn't and I had to use DDU in safe mode again. Does anyone know why this happens or how I can fix it?

Here are my pc specs: asus prime h770-plus d4, intel i5 12600k, 32gb 3200mhz ddr4 from g skill, rx 6700xt

Hi, I looked through the error messages a bit myself and saw that apparently safe boot was disabled even though it should always be enabled on windows 11, afterwards I rebooted and uninstalled the old GPU drivers, installed the new PSU and installed the GPU drivers again and it's working for now! I don't know specifically which of these 2 changes was the problem but I sure as hell am not going to try and find out which one it was!

I just checked and it also still blackscreens whenever I start games, even without the amd adrenalin drivers installed.

The current Adrenalin driver update (24.12.1) is recommended for your RX 6700 XT.  You could try installing the 24.8.1 driver update and see if that works.

Other things to consider are your monitor cables (please use DP cable if possible) and your monitor itself.  Also, if you go out of the refresh rate for your monitor, say going to 120 Hz for a 60 Hz monitor, the monitor will go blank too.  You might only have a refresh rate problem here.

Hi, I've had this issue with games blackscreening upon starting since august or september, however after changing my motherboard which was faulty, to the current one it worked until around mid-november when the same issue started, so I doubt that it is purely a driver issue. I'm also using a DP cable and my monitor is currently set to 144hz, even though it is a 240hz monitor so I hope that that should be fine too. Also, it works fine if I use my integrated graphics to play any game, of course with a much worse frame rate but no crashes and no other problems.

Try a few other settings for your monitor, including 240 Hz.  Double check that setting in Windows after you reboot the computer when making these changes.

Hi, sorry for the late reply, I was pretty busy for the last week. Unfortunately, that also didn't work, even when setting it to 240hz in the windows settings and launching a game with the      -refresh 240 launch command. Do you think that my PSU might have the issue that it doesn't give enough power for my GPU, especially when starting a game, which could cause the blackscreens? Because without the graphics card everything works fine, the driver doesn't seem to be the issue, the replaced GPU probably should work but might not because of the power issue and my mainboard was just replaced 3 months ago and shouldn't have any problems. I think I forgot to mention my PSU, which is a be quiet! System power 9 600W.

Happy Holidays!

Before changing out a quality-brand (but rather low on power output) PSU, I would look for other driver updates, like the chipset drivers for your Intel system.  I would also try other monitor cables, such as another DP cable and maybe even try a few HDMI cables.  Ideally, you should also try another monitor, if you can borrow one from a friend.

Hi, I checked if there were any driver updates but there are no new updates and the intel drivers work fine if I use my PC without the GPU. I also tried another monitor with a different DP cable but unfortunately that also didn't help. So I guess I'll just get a new PSU with more power, since everything else works without the GPU and this is the only component that might get affected and cause problems for the GPU. I'll just test it out and if it still doesn't work, I'll simply return it and look further with the help from this forum.

Hi, I just had an issue where my PC rebooted out of nowhere in the middle of a game for no reason whatsoever, without the GPU and with the old PSU since the new one didn't arrive yet. How can I give you the event logs so you can maybe look over it and see if you see anything worthwhile?

Ok I think these should be the event logs with the crashes included https://drive.google.com/file/d/10IpkH0KoqiWcLgRfgedjJN5Y9LefLbdN/view?usp=sharing
