At Computex 2022, AMD previewed exciting new details of the Ryzen™ 7000 Series processor and AMD Socket AM5. The exciting new enthusiast platform has many new features, but full support for PCIe® Gen 5 is certainly a star of the show. PCIe® 5.0 brings advanced performance, efficiency and user experience for storage and graphics.
Leading the transition to PCIe® Gen 5, Phison and Micron have collaborated with AMD to ensure PCIe® Gen 5 devices are ready for enthusiasts when Socket AM5 is available. By combining Phison’s E26 SSD controller and Micron’s Replacement Gate NAND, AMD is projecting that storage bandwidth can be more than 60% faster than existing NVMe SSDs(1). AMD is excited to collaborate with industry leaders like Phison and Micron to develop and co-validate next-generation storage solutions for our next-generation Socket AM5 platform.
Coming later in 2022, this effort will also usher in PCIe® 5.0-ready solutions from vendors like Apacer, ASUS, Corsair, Galaxy, Gigabyte, MSI, PNY, Sabrent and Seagate. Altogether, AMD Socket AM5 is shaping up to be an exciting enthusiast platform with PCIe(R) Gen 5 support on up to 24 lanes, spanning both graphics and NVMe slots! We’re excited to bring this platform to life in the fall of 2022, and we’ll be back with more details and announcements throughout the summer.
