5700XT freezes when zooming in on google maps on both Chrome & Firefox on Linux (Ubuntu 20.04, 19.10)

There is a bug regarding this issue: AMD Navi GPU frequent freezes on both Manjaro/Ubuntu with kernel 5.3 and mesa 19.2 -git/llvm9 (#892)...

It's very easy to reproduce – aggressive zooming in google maps causes the whole system to freeze, the only way to recover is the reset button, seems to be the same issue with both X.org and Wayland, and you can see those logs in kernel.log:

This is a pretty major issue and I'd like someone on the AMD side to get involved in fixing that.

Same video card same ubuntu, we need a driver for 20.04. I also freezes at other random moments.

I have the exact same problem for months (5700XT), I was hopping 20.04 would bring some improvements compared with 19.10 but apparently not. Got random freeze of the system while working, mostly when using chrome on GPU-accelerated pages. I juste tried google maps as you said and it freeze every time (on chrome and firefox). I also have the same freeze problem when getting the computer out of sleep sometimes. Please AMD do something ‍♂

The solution is to install a new kernel >=5.5
This is not in the repo for now, you must use this instructions for example.
I have 5700xt, Mint 20,MESA 20.2 oibaf, but work on Mint19.3 and MESA 20.1

I was installed kernel 5.6 and fix bug, Thank you very much.

Installed drivers for ubuntu 20, amd-pro-install script. Google maps stopped freezing in Chrome, didnt try FFox. Looks ok.

Thanks, I was waiting for the fix to land in Ubuntu default kernel but got tired of all the crashes so I installed the AMD pro driver as you said and it worked great. No crash using google maps any more in Chrome nor Firefox. Hardware acceleration is still working perfectly in Chrome.
