Not long ago my e2 slot on the msi z77-g43 died so I was forced to move my gpu down to the e4 slot. now its in a cramped spot just above the 775 watt psu and its having issues with heat.
Ive cleaned the cooler and applied new thermal paste but the stock cooler at 100 % fan speed just barely keeps the gpu under 90 deg Celsius. My main issue here is with how loud the fan is, its simply unbearable. im looking for advice/solution for this problem. Should I invest in a new case, mobo or a better cooler for the gpu? im on a relatively tight budget here but any advice is welcome.
Graphics: Amd HD7970 with a stock cooler
CPU: Intel Core i5 2500k with a Thermaltake spinq vt cooler
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower XT 775W
Motherboard: MSI Z77-G43
Case: Thermaltake vl80001w2z
OS: Windows 10 pro 64
90°C isn't damaging to the GPU, all the components are built to take that kind of heat. I'd just replace the motherboard and take it as a lesson learned to never ever use any Missing Some Intelligence product again, but the problem there is that LGA 1155 is long since discontinued by Intel so you're limited to a used board, and you said your budget is small.
