I’ve been working in the IT business since the late 80’s in multiple roles, but never as a dev. Others like it and does it a million times better…
There was a lot of management and writing reports the last decades, but I missed having the time to do and be hands on with tech stuff.
Now, I’m early retired due to health issues. It sucks. When I got energy I try to reconnect to my “inner technician” that has been into sleep mode or was it hibernate?
It sure is fun to reconnect to all techie stuff. And there is a lot more to learn - for me about AMD graphics and supporting software for Ryzen. I had to join this forum to learn and to ask about things.
Have mostly used Apple stuff or PC laptops. But I miss having a rig (my last was with a then new AMD Athlon 1Ghz - the one that didn’t have a safe mode and could overheat and melt…
Sure, I wanted a Threadripper but those where on a corporate budget, so I thought I’d have a go with Xeon since I knew what i5/i7/i9 was all about and wanted to try using Xeon as a PC and not as Server where I usually encountered them.
Said and done I got me a HPZ8G4 Workstation with dual Xeon, lot of RAM and now I got all the upgrades HP offered and the some.
Flying DCS is something I had in mind getting my 6950.
For graphics I went with AMD since my MacBook Pro has a AMD Radeon Pro 5600M that has worked well when I had Windows installed. I got the RX6950XT from AMD (and not the then new RX7900XTX / RX7900XT) since it had USB-C, HDMI and DP and for it to be powerful and proven to be stable. I then got a WX7100 since MacOS supports it natively, if I want to try and run it as a VM for instance. I hope it can be fun to try things in a homelab of sorts.
But I haven’t got both GPU’s to work together and I’m not having a stable system with them in the system together. That’s why I joined here. The knowledge should be vast. Perhaps I will get everything to work if I use a hypervisor like Proxmox instead of trying to get both card to work in Win11…
This community will probably give me the know-how I currently don’t have to try things and to walk the more correct path. I have spend my little energy wisely and that means for me to cut down doing testing and go for usage instead.
For usage of AMD drivers on Mac with Windows (or BootCamp) I’ve used and contributed the work that has been done at https://www.bootcampdrivers.com/
