Are you up for creating something new? And are you familiar with the Steampunk genre? If so, enter the Red Team Steampunk PC Case Mod Contest. A contest where the AMD staff will select and reward a winner for sharing his/her creation with us.

Here is how it works:

If you haven't yet, join the Red Team Modders Group! Then submit up to 8 pictures of your Steampunk-inspired PC Mod, along with a description and the specifications. Be sure the pictures are clear, high res, and not out of focus. This is your official entry into the contest.

Entries must be submitted by Saturday, September 30 at 12:00 PM CT. (That's right, you have about 90 days)

The top three entries will be announced by Tuesday, October 3rd, 2023. The winner will be announced by Friday, October 6th, 2023. These will be judged by the AMD staff using the following criteria:

When looking at the PC Case Mod, the judges will ask themselves questions like:

  • Design: “Does the mod look like it belongs in the Steampunk era? If so, how well is it showcased?”, “Do the keyboard, monitor, and mouse match the case?”, “How easily does the Mod visually convey Steampunk? ”, etc.
  • Customization: “Does the Mod feature a special cooling fan(s), custom paint job, and/or logos/symbols?”, “Does the Mod have a special compartment for the power unit or cooling system? Any special RGB lighting (inside and outside) of the case that gives it a steampunk look?”, “Any LEDs, valves, lamps, steam-like gadgets?”
  • Quality: “Does the Mod have any noticeable scratches?”, “Is it dusty or dirty?”, “Are parts dangling inside the case?”, etc.
  • Cable management: “Are all the cables inside the rig nicely organized, tied, and sorted together? Is there anything left dangling or lose?”, “Do the colors of the cables resemble the steampunk genre?”, etc.

The winner will be announced by Friday, October 6, 2023.

About the prize, the winner gets the following:

I don't get these types of contests? There will a small amount of participants and the one who do enter for the most part have the money to build these types of case mods. Others that could really use these components get left out in the cold once again! Great Job P.R. department!

You understand that you don't need the latest CPU and GPU to get a chance to win a brand new system, right? You could spend very little for a chance as long as you are creative.

Grab an old spare case that no one wants, give it old machine look with some paint or decals. Put an old system in it and bring it to life.

Lastly, enjoy.

Hello @deadbolt ,

Thank you for your comment. In addition to @johnnyenglish reply, there is another way for you to win "stuff". You can enter the Red Team Monthly Sweeps for a chance to win hardware components, swag, and even game codes.

Don't the original IBM PC and Mac qualify? How about a trash-80 or maybe the Osborne "portable"?

Hello, @fean98 ,

Those are great "retro" systems. Sure, they could work, as long as you give them a steampunk touch! (i.e., adding old valves, switches, gears, and mechanical parts...). In fact, google "steampunk pc", to get an idea of what I'm referring to.

I've been building and modding computers since the year 2000. My first computer was an Osborne Executive in 1983. That makes me old but I still build a machine (only AMD-based computers) once a year for fun.
