Urgent: AMD Processor Appears Tampered – Need Help with Warranty Status and Return

Hi everyone,

I hope you’re doing well.I recently purchased an AMD RYZEN 5 5500GT processor from Amazon, but I’ve discovered that it appears to have been tampered with. I’m concerned about the validity of the warranty and the overall authenticity of the product.I need assistance with the following:

How can I verify if the processor is genuine and if it has been tampered with?

What are the steps to check the warranty status given the suspicion of tampering?

What information or evidence should I provide to AMD and Amazon to facilitate a return?

How do I contact AMD customer support and Amazon for this issue?

Any advice on how to handle this situation would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your help!

Can you clarify by what you meant by being "Tampered" with?

Is the CPU Serial number altered or damaged on the CPU Lid?  If it is the AMD Warranty is voided.

Did the Processor come in a official Sealed AMD RETAIL Box or in some other packaging?  If it came in some other packaging then most likely you have a OEM/TRAY or Used AMD Processors thus no AMD Warranty.

As mentioned in a previous reply the Warranty you need to see is the PIB (Processor in Box) which explains everything about the Retail AMD Warranty - whats covered and what isn't covered: https://www.amd.com/en/resources/support-articles/warranty/PIB.html

Sanjay13, I would simply suggest you call Amazon and get a new processor. John.

I recently contacted support, and they mentioned that an internal investigation is ongoing, which will take about three days to complete. In the meantime, I want to check whether my processor is new or used. I heard that it's possible to verify this by checking the warranty status through AMD's system. Can anyone guide me on how to do this? Thanks in advance for your help!

Open a AMD SUPPORT - WARRANTY Ticket and input your CPU Processor's Serial number etched on the Processor lid and let them know the circumstances and to see if the Serial number is new or OEM/TRAY or Used from here: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html
