Hi,

I have a doubt... I have a Ryzen 5600x, and i wanna buy two RAM, but i don't now what is the limit frequency of ram for this processor, in the webside it says the ram can go up to 3200 MHz, but I've seen some PC Builds that have up to 3800 MHZ RAM. Somebody could help me?

RAM speed isn't just up to the CPU, but also what your motherboard supports.  Pending on your motherboard, I suggest DDR4 3600 MHz as the fastest that you look at best compatibility.  If you provide a motherboard, I can give you a more exact speed and branding to best match your setup.

Before picking RAM out consider if you want 2 or 4 sticks of RAM.  Some motherboards do not support all 4 mem slots being occupied with certain brands of RAM\High MHz, so make sure you verify with your motherboard's RAM compatibility list, but two sticks of RAM should be supported w/o problems. 

I had a problem with 4 sticks of the 3600 MHz Corsairs below but had no problem with ADATA for example.

Always get 2 or 4 pair of RAM for best performance w/ Ryzen, FYI many online testers have noticed AMD 5000 series CPU get an extra 5-10% in games when 4 RAM sticks used.

I personally prefer Corsair RAM but was forced with ADATA since I used 4 sticks of RAM.

These are a very safe bet at 3200MHz - 2 sticks of RAM  16GB 8x2

Hi there! I'm looking to upgrade my ram but i don't really know what is compatible with my processor and motherboard. 

right now i have a ryzen 5 5600x with a b550 aorus elite v2 mobo, and 2x8 - 16gb ram from hyperx fury with 3200 mhz. I was thinking of getting new ram sticks with higher mhz do you think that is possible ? and will it improve my perfomance ? please help me out!! thanks lots!

1) Try overclocking current sticks to 3600 from BIOS. You can increase voltage to 1.375V if needed, but some memory stick actually don't like voltage and clock better with less voltage.

2) If you just want to buy new sticks and don't know what to buy, get 2x32 Gb at what speed you want. Motherboard manufacturers have QVL lists, where you can find which memory kits are tested to be compatible (other can be too, but these are tested to be)

3) In your case, considering DDR4 is a dying breed and this is likely the last motherboard you'll have with DDR4, I would just get two more sticks of what you already have.

While different brand/model memory sticks can work together, they might also not or performance might suffer.

Notice that you can't just get "hyperx 3200" as there are many different kinds. It has to be identical kit with the identical memory chips. Maybe unplug one stick and take a picture of the sticker on its side unless you can find a receipt or something, where you can find the exact model. It is a cheap upgrade, but you'll get twice the memory and more bandwidth due to extra memory sticks. Rather consider upgrading the CPU to 5800X3D if you want more performance, than buying all the memory.

What kind of ram should I purchase if idc about price on an msi x570 ace mobo with a r5 5600x? I plan on upgrading to one of the x3d am4 ryzens soon. I am having slight problems o. Deciding if I should get 4000mhz ram? I'm a gamer streamer and like to listen to music and what not while recording and broadcasting.

The "Sweet Spot" for 5000 series Ryzen is 3600. Go with a 3600 CAS16 kit .. that will be a good balance between performance and price. The lower the latency though, the better performance you'll get.

IF you are into tinkering a bit .. I've found that most 3200 rated kits will do 3600 speeds without to much fuss.

I run 2 x 16GB RGB HyperX 3200 CAS16 1.35v sticks @ 3800 CAS18 1.39v on an x570 Taichi with my 5900x

In my daughters rig, I run her 2 x 16GB (non RGB) HyperX 3200 sticks at 3600 with her 5800x on an x570 Steel Legend

In my wife's setup .. for awhile I had 2 x 16GB 2666 rated stuff running at 3200. She now runs 2 x 8GB 3600 stuff.

I've ran all kind of brands without issue with 3000 series and now 5000 series Ryzen's .. I did run into issues running 2000 series though.

I'd recommend getting 2 x 16gb sticks over 4 x 8gb sticks .. but that's just me. Do what your pocketbook allows.

Make sure that if you run only 2 sticks of RAM on a 4 memory slotted motherboard, that you install your RAM in slots A2/B2 (2nd and 4th slots away from the CPU socket). Otherwise your RAM will not run in dual channel mode nor will it run at it's properly rated speed when you enable XMP/DOCP in your BIOS .. it will default to 2133 or 2400 (whatever your motherboard's default memory speed is)

Hello ,I have a similar problem!! Motherboard Asus Rog Strix B550-A Gaming ,Ryzen 5 5600X, with ddr4 Patriot Viper 20-26-26-46 4000 MHz 2x16Gb! I'm not a Tech guy and I'm just wondering how can I set them up to work at least at 3600.. default is 2666(slotA2-B2)! Please comment !!

In the Bios, you need to find in the memory setup section XMP, and when you click it it should give you a list of preset memory speeds one of which should be the rated speed and 1 or 2 others a bit slower with slightly tighter timings. In your case, when you are starting the pc and the ASUS logo appears, press F2 or DEL to start the BIOS, select "Advanced Options", then go to the "Ai Tweaker" tab and in the RAM profile select "D.O.C.P 4000 MHz CL 20-26-26-46" and press F10 to save and start with that configuration.

My take would be to:

Enable DOCP, then reduce clock speed to 3600Mhz and IF clock to half of that (3600/2=1800) if your system does not work at 4000. 

If 3600 works, change clock speed to 3733, IF to 1866

If that works, you can try 3800/1900

If your computer refuses to boot after some attempt, unplug from wall socket, clear cmos and try one step slower.

You might also want to try Ryzen Dram calculator if you want to optimize further. You can use CPU-Z (SPD tab) to find out, which memory chips you have

I need some help please.

I've got an pc build with a Ryzen 5 5600x CPU. Now I got a 1x 16GB DDR4 RAM stick clocked at 3466Mhz. Prior to this I had a 8GB DDR4 RAM stick clocked at 3200Mhz (I've got rid of this now). In task manager the RAM speed was always stuck at 2667Mhz. I was wondering why I was never able to get the clock speed at 3200Mhz considering the motherboard and CPU can support it. On the AMD website, the CPU has memory upto 3200Mhz. In this forum I read that someone was able to get higher speeds than what the CPU was capable of doing so I'm not sure how reliable that information is. 

Earlier on today I tried tweaking with the BIOS, Enabled XMP and set the memory to 3200Mhz. My PC refused to boot and I had to remove the cell and reset the BIOS. I tried this again at 3000Mhz and it failed to boot. Would anyone be kind enough to let me know what I am doing wrong or what I can do to get the speeds at least to 3200Mhz.

1 Stick of Ram? XMP Profiles are most likely for dual channel only 2 or 4 sticks of ram in channel A or B usually slots 1,3 or 2,4. Now far as my motherboard and mismatched memory (which is not suggested) I have custom timings and have to set my memory frequency at 1800 and also the Fabric clock at 1800 manually to make them stay @3600mhz. And am lucky that it is stable with good performance.
