LED ERROR 8F on motherboard X670E Master and R9 7900X3D

Hello everyone,

after building my first pc I have started to get led error code 8F on my motherboard X670 E Master Aorus. The system seems to be working fine, while gaming etc.

Specs: R9 7900X3D

Corsair DDR5 Dominator 6000MHz - 32GB

Radeon 7900XT

PSU ROG LOKI 850W Platinum

However as I dont know the source or what the issue is I fear what might happen.

Any help from the community would be very appreciated.

Thank you!

Based on the search results, the user is experiencing an LED error code 8F on their Gigabyte X670E Aorus Master motherboard with an R9 7900X3D graphics card. Here are some possible solutions:

Check the VGA connections: The LED error code 8F indicates a VGA error, so it's recommended to check the VGA connections and make sure the graphics card is properly seated in the PCIe slot

Update the BIOS: Updating the BIOS to the latest version may help resolve the issue.

Check the graphics card: It's possible that the graphics card is faulty or incompatible with the motherboard. Try testing the graphics card in another system or testing another graphics card in the current system to rule out any issues with the graphics card.

It's worth noting that LED error codes can vary depending on the motherboard and manufacturer, so it's important to refer to the motherboard manual or manufacturer's website for specific information on LED error codes

Thanks for the reply.

I have also the latest version of the BIOS, unfortunatelly on other hardware community I got reply saying it might be on AMD or BIOS version, since the system is running perfectly fine, besides showing 8F led error.

The graphics card is also fine, tested.

Probably for now is the only solution to wait for new BIOS version or AMD drivers.

Note: For completely up to date and latest components the market has to offer it might be that everything is not yet tuned drivers-wise. Even though most components I use were released Q4 2022 and Q1 2023.

The 8F could be due to a BIOS issue as mentioned by @BillyFeltrop so having the latest BIOS Version might help eliminate that error.

I guess you realize you have two Graphics adapters in your PC right?

Your Processor also utilized Integrated Graphics besides your GPU card.

So it is possible the 8F error could be due to your Integrated Graphics.

Normally BIOS will switch your IGPU to your GPU card automatically as your Main Graphics Adapter. but your IGPU will still be enabled but as a second GPU.

Check Device Manager - Display and see if both the IGPU and GPU card are enabled without any errors.

If you do see any type of errors in Device Manager click on it to determine what the error is and try reinstalling the driver again to remove the error.

Note: Upload a GPU-Z image for both your IGPU and GPU card to make sure your AMD driver is installed correctly. This really shouldn't matter since the error you are getting is BEFORE Windows even loads up.

EDIT: From Gigabyte Support concerning 8F error: https://bestofmotherboard.com/gigabyte-motherboard-error-codes-deubug-led-fixed/?expand_article=1

80~8F reserved for OEM use (OEM DXE initialization codes).

The above articles gives you some very good troubleshooting tips when you encounter a Gigabyte Motherboard error like 8F.

So most likely it is hardware issue with your Motherboard or hardware connected to the motherboard during boot up.

I am running latest bios for motherboard X670E Master Aorus, which is F13c.

I have laso found out, that after removing one RAM module, the error disappears and shows different error. Error shown with one ram module is A0.

Note: I have checkced integrated graphics as well as main graphics 7900XT in device manager, both are showing no errors and correct functionality.

I will try to buy different RAM modules, as I have found out that current do not show in motherboard supported list.  I will update the thread if the issue was unsupported RAM modules.

Not all Q codes are error related, your motherboard manual has a list of codes.
