Changing my processor with motherboard p2A4-em

Hello,

I have a computer with a motherboard p2A4-em and a processor AMD Ryzen 5 1400 Quad-Core. I am exploring the idea of changing my processor. I wonder what would be the best processor possible with this motherboard?

I think changing the processor will help me with my lag and freeze with Ableton software ? Am I right ?

Thanks for reading me, have a nice dat

As mentioned by @FunkZ  depends on the BIOS version you have installed on the Motherboard. Without the proper BIOS install any new processor may not be recognized and won't boot up.

You need to go to Medion Support and see if they have a CPU LIST for your motherboard.

Did find this Medion Forum that seems to mention which type of Ryzen your Motherboard supports: https://community.medion.com/t5/FAQs/FAQs-Specifications-Mainboard-quot-ECS-P2A4-EM-B350-quot/ta-p/1...

Here is another thread from Medion Forum where it has a BIOS version to download for your motherboard: https://community.medion.com/t5/ERAZER-Gaming/AGESA-1-0-0-6-Bios-update-for-P2A4-EM-ryzen-motherobar...

EDIT: When I google your motherboard this particular ECS Motherboard keep popping up. Here is the CPU SUPPORT List for the motherboard from ECS that seems to be the same as yours or very close to your Medion P2A4-EM B350 Motherboard: https://www.ecs.com.tw/en/Product/Motherboard/B350AM4-M2A/support

You will need to Contact Medion Support or ECS Support to see if the above linked Motherboard from ECS is the same one as yours.

No idea on the software lag/freeze issue. But to answer your question about supported CPUs for motherboard P2A4-EM, it seems this is an ECS B350 chipset board? The CPUs supported by this board will depend on the BIOS available from the manufacturer. ECS is typically an OEM supplier, so what brand is your PC or what system integrator built it? They would be the best source for BIOS for that board and definitive answer on what CPUs are supported.

Assuming you can get ahold of an updated BIOS, a B350 chipset should be able to support AM4 processors up to 5000 series Ryzen. Again, it's going to depend on the manufacturer BIOS support. I did find mention of a max TDP rating of 95W for that board, probably due to undersized power components. That would rule out the 105W TDP chips like 5800X, 5900X, etc.

Ryzen R7 5700G | B550 Gaming X | 2x8GB G.Skill 4000 | Radeon Vega 8 IGP
Ryzen R5 5600 | B550 Gaming Edge | 4x8GB G.Skill 3600 | Radeon RX 6800XT

Thanks for your answer.

The pc brand is medion. So it will depend of it is possible or not to update bios ?

I will ask their support to have information.

Sorry for the late answer, but thank you for your help and time.

I already contacted medion but it seems like a dead end, I just sent a ticket to the ecs support. Hopefully they will be able to help me.

hey jeje, any updates on this topic? I have the same board with the newest firmware from Medion and it seems like officially they only support 1st gen ryzen...

Unfortunately that seems to be the consensus, based on prior research by @jeje420 @elstaci and myself, neither ECS (the board manufacturer) nor Medion (the system integrator) offers a BIOS update for that particular motherboard that supports newer CPU generations.
