I guess after nine plus years of flawless and most satisfactory performance it may be time to build another unit. My current unit houses a AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400 Brisbane with 16GB RAM. We use the unit for work and surfing, not playing games like teeny-boppers do. What would be a good current model replacement? From there I can spec out mobos, RAM, vid, etc. Thanx.
Define "work", as someone who renders with Photoshop will have a different need than someone who uses Microsoft Office.
Actually I've numerous photo editors on my current unit with no problems at all. Photoshop, Photoshop Elements, GIMP. Photoscape, etc. Also multi-hundred thousand record Access databases, macro and formula filled Excel files, and transfering my DVD collection to my NAS. Für Elise. Alright, what's your budget? Also, don't reply by email, this stupid forum software posts your email address and name for all to see.
My last kit cost around $400 total for mobo, case, video, sound, cpu, psu, network and cooler. I don't remember the orignal price for just the CPU. I'd like to stay under $150 and am hoping to use the same case, new mobo, and M.2 SSD.The psu is a Corsair 800 watt unit that's only a couple years old.
Not going to happen, DDR4 RAM alone will cost you $150, so you're looking at $400 for a decent system again.
