Hi Everyone,

So, I spent a small fortune on the Threadripper Pro 7985WX which is super-fast doing most things.  However, I just started using it with Cinema 4D and rendering a small scene it hit 95.2C.  That totally freaked me out as I thought it would throttle back if it got even close to that high!  I'm assuming since I stopped the render after noticing it fairly fast that it didn't damage the processor (at least I hope not!).  At normal idle it runs from 39C to sometimes 48C but not sure why it went that high since I'm using an AIO which was recommended by AMD on their site.

Anyway, just wondering if anyone else has experienced these high temps during normal operation.

Paul W., please post a screenshot of Ryzen Master (RM) when rendering. 7985WX maximum temperature is 95C and you are correct it should have throttled before it hit 95C. I suspect the application you are using to monitor. Post all your parts and make sure all your fans and pump are running properly. I run all mine off straight 12 Volts from the power supply. Thanks, pwagner69. These look OK, scores  a little lower than what I found on Google. Temperature is fine but I suspect your processor may be throttling. I really need to see RM Advanced view and not any of Cinebench. Please just tell me your Multi-core score. Hopefully the Advanced view will tell me why the the processor is running only 4300 MHz. Also please post details on your system: Mainboard, Memory, Power supply, AIO, etc. I run my 3970X in NUMA mode and it seems to help Cinebench and may help your rendering. Thanks and enjoy, John.

Hi John,

Thanks so much for your all your help regarding this. 

This system is probably my 40th or so computer build (somewhat of a guess).  My wife had her own office with nine to ten employees so I built all the computers for her making new ones as technology improved.  I never tried to exceed the out of the box settings on the motherboards etc. as they were just need for word processing.  That being said, this is the first time I have tried to build a system capable of doing intensive 3d rendering.

Anyway, here are the components of the system.  I tried to find a motherboard (at the time of building the system) that would support the newer DDR5 Ram.  There weren't a lot of choices available.

Motherboard:  Gigabyte TRX50 AERO D (I looked all over the BIOS for NUMA option but didn't find it)

Memory:  Kingston Fury Renegade Pro Expo 128GB 6000MT/s DDR5 ECC

Power supply:  EVGA Supernova G2 1600W 

AIO:  Enermax Liqtech II TR4 360 (the reason I bought this one is that is supported the sTRX4 socket

I'll run Cinebench again with the expanded view of RM so you can view all cores.

Thanks, pwagner69. Looks OK. You are not running your memory at rated speed (6000MTs). You will need to select an XMP profile. Temperature is not limiting your speed, but the red  meters are causing throttling and the yellow ones are close. I also have a Gigabyte MB and found the NUMA switch in BIOS with ACPI (weird). You can also lift the limits that are causing the red meters which AMD considers overclocking. We still need to see an RM screenshot of a real rendering session. Thanks and enjoy, John.

Hi John,

I've looked all over the BIOS and it does not have the ability to set NUMA.  I found this article addressing the NUMA issue with the Threadripper processor.  According to the article AMD sets it to run in a UMA configuration: a uniform memory access system.  I guess that's why the Gigabyte motherboard doesn't have a NUMA option.
