hi i have Threadripper 2990WX i wanted to know if it will have support of pcie 4.0 by bios update (x399 MB) or any kind of new future of motherboards ?
thanks
anyone please?
Here are the specs for the Ryzen 2990WX. It only indicates it supports PCIe 3.0 - 64 lanes: http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Zen/AMD-Ryzen%20Threadripper%202990WX.html
But it seems to be whether the motherboard will support PCIe 4.0 according to this article: https://www.pcgamesn.com/amd/400-series-pci-4-0-bandwidth-bios-support-ryzen-3000
also:
Also seems like the next AMD Generation Ryzen 3000 will support PCIe 4.0 if the motherboard supports it.
Seems like for the moment only 3rd Generation AMD Processors with a X570 based Motherboard will support PCIe 4.0 as per this Official Statement from AMD: https://community.amd.com/community/gaming/blog/2019/05/26/the-industry-leading-amd-am4-x570-chipset :
The future of PCIe 4.0 bandwidth starts in 2019 with the launch of 3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Desktop Processors and AMD X570-based motherboards. We’ve been working closely with leading technology partners like Phison to enable the first PCIe 4.0 ×4 NVMe controllers for consumer storage devices, as well as SSD vendors like Corsair, Galaxy and Gigabyte to help bring PCIe 4.0 drives to market.
dylen_vega64nitro, this is a user forum. I, too, would like to know your answer (I own a 2990WX) but I think AMD is really close to the chest in these matters and we (Users) certainly have no special access to this type of information. Please let us know if you learn the answer. Enjoy, John.
