Single threaded cores

We use mainly two different multithreaded programs that we in the future will run more or less the whole time.

We have tested them with 7950x and 5975wx using different number of threads.

The first program takes longer time to run when using more threads than the number of cores.

The second program only gains a 10 % decrease in runtime when using all threads instead of only all cores single threaded.

The first runs faster with a fair amount of cores but with higher frequency (runs faster on 7950x) and the second needs more cores but can sacrifice some speed (runs faster on 5975wx).

We would therefore be interested in CPUs with only optimized single threaded cores.

If the extra registers could be used to speed up single threaded performans with 15 % or more that would be more valuable than an extra thread for all our programs.

Even better would of course be a 10950xs with 32 single threaded cores for our first program (instead of 16 double threaded cores).

If the am5 socket support 32 threads couldn't it support 32 cores instead?

The second would probably perform at its best with 64 or perhaps 96 single threaded cores in a Threadripper or Threadripper PRO.

Anyone else that has come to the same need for single threaded cores?
