Ryzen 7 5800x with no post.

Hi, I have a recently bought ryzen 7 5800x that i was looking to use to upgrade my cpu that i previously had (ryzen 5 3600x). My motherboard is a MSI B450M Pro-VDH Max,

Upon the install all that im left with is a black screen and a debug code light for the cpu on my motherboard. Now im just trying to figure out whether or not my motherboard isn't compatible or if its drivers i need to install or if the cpu i bought is a faulty chip.

Any Input would be great thanks.

Hi You need to put back the old cpu and update your bios.

Have you checked if the 5800X is on the supported list for that board?

Always before you install another processor make sure you have updated your BIOS on the Motherboard to the latest BIOS updates because that Motherboard did not come with the Bios needed to run the Ryzen 5800x and it will not post till you have done this!!!

rereply- It is quite possible that i may have been able to update the bios to the newer version. but after thinking upon this I figured that I may aswell just upgrade the motherboard for the sake of performance. Thanks for the help tho.

Motherboards are usually quite transparent and swapping MB may not give you as much boost as you expect unless you move from AM4 (pcie 4) to AM5 (pcie5), otherwise you wont actually feel any performance upgrades especially with 5800X difference will be minimal.... No point spending extra money unless you move to AM5 really which are still quite expensive CPU and MB. If you can just run the 5800X for the meantime, unless you have an option to return it, and wait another year until you move to AM5...
