Ryzen 7 2700x Voltage / EDC Question

Hello,

I need help from AMD wizards, I have a few concerns not necessarily issues. I used to own Intel processors but now I have decided to change teams so to speak so I am new to the whole AMD experience.

The concerns I am having is with Ryzen 7 2700x processor:

  1. CPU Voltage

I have read all over the internet that anything over 1.4v could cause a degradation in longevity of the processor. My CPU voltage, when set in windows power plan: Balanced / High perf. / Ryzen balanced is always around 1.4v or over.

„AMD recommends Ryzen™ 7 2700X owners to not run their processors beyond 1.4V. If you're a performance chaser, there's no harm in going as high as 1.45V as long as you have a capable cooling solution that can keep the heat under control. “

Should I be concerned?

The BIOS settings are set to default, nothing has been overclocked or changed. The voltage is that high during normal operation, not gaming. As you can see in the screenshot attached.

  1. Regarding the EDC.

Is it normal to have it at 100 % at idle? Will it cause any damages to the MBO or reduce longevity?

The EDC is at 100% almost all the time when the power plan is set: Balanced / High perf. / Ryzen balanced

When I set the power plan at Power saver, my CPU speed is limited to 2.2 GHz which is not something I want but it reduces voltage and EDC

It is worth noting that I do not have cooling issues, the CPU, MBU temps are withing normal ranges and the CPU is not overloaded in any way when gaming.

  1. RAM Speed

Not sure if this is the right place to post this but, I have a HyperX 16GB Predator DDR4 3200MHz CL16 KIT HX432C16PB3K2/16  Running at 1200 MHz. Is this something that could / should be corrected?

I do not want to overclock the CPU and reduce the longevity even if it is a factory overclock / boost. All I want Is to be able to run the CPU at its base core speed of 3.7 GHz. So far, I’ve only encountered two options, to run it in (default) boost mode of over 4 GHz or power saving mode of 2.2 GHz.

What do I need to do, to balance my CPU power / speed ratio to the point that is not using too much EDC but still runs at its core speed? Do I need to change the bios settings?

Here are my specs.

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700X - https://www.amd.com/en/products/cpu/amd-ryzen-7-2700x

MBO: AMD B450-PLUS GAMING

GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Zotac AMP!

PSU: Corsair VS650

When playing a game, M&B: Bannerlord and power plan is set to Balanced (windows) These are the stats:

At this point I have disabled the PBO in bios .

Nobody got any ideas.

Ok this is what I've got so far, I think I found a temporary solution I'll share if anyone has this kind of issue.

I saw some people have the same problem, when windows balanced plan is activated, the CPU is constantly boosted even though not doing anything “heavy” or just being idle. Drawing a lot of amps and volts and clock being over 4.0 GHz but not under stress. It’s kind of a downer knowing that the default settings will constantly boost my CPU even when I don’t want it to.

Things I do now:

When playing games I make sure the Windows balanced power plan is active, not ryzen balanced since it does weird things to the specs I don’t like seeing.

When not gaming, just everyday use, I use power save power plan and my CPU is not boosted. I can even play some games on power save plan.

I did enable XMP in BIOS and disabled PBO, also I activated the Game Mode profile in Ryzen Master, I’m not sure if this has any effect but it seems to be ok now. It is a little pain in the a*** to have to change the plan every time I want to achieve smooth FPS but I can live with it for now.

In game mode profile is where the CPU voltage is limited to 1.21v so I’m thinking that helps.

Let me say this much, the Ryzen CPU is one monster of a CPU and can take a lot to stress it, but I had no issues of this kind with intel.
