Ryzen 5 5600x Stock Cooler Instability with Core Performance Boost

Hi,

So recently I was testing my new 5600x with the stock cooler and found that while playing games I will reach 80 degrees Celsius and the game will randomly freeze. I decided to turn off Core Performance Boost in the BIOS and no longer reached nearly as high of temperatures and did not experience any freezing. Is it normal that I should have to turn off this setting using the stock cooler to maintain stability or should I be concerned that something is wrong? I appreciate the help.

Well 80C shouldn't be an issue, was your bios set auto or enabled.

And what windows power plan.

My PC- Ryzen 5 5600x, B550 aorus pro ac, Hyper 212 black, 2 x 16gb F4-3600c16dgtzn kit, NM790 2TB, Nitro+RX6900XT, RM850, Win.10 Pro., LC27G55T.

The BIOS had this option set to AUTO and the windows power plan is set to balanced.

Okay, 80 degrees is still a safe temp.  Tj Max is something like 95.
Still, 80's kinda warm.  I'd check to make sure you're getting good contact with your CPU cooler.
But yes, high temps will have Ryzen cutting frequency to retain stability.

I would definitely invest in a half decent after market cooler, the stock coolers are not great at all. I use a be quiet dark rock slim and was actually surprised how cool my 5600X runs.
