Replacing an A6-5400K processor with an A8-5600K

Is it OK to replace an A6-5400K with an A8-5600K? If so, is it just an issue of manually taking out the old processor and putting in the new and then restarting? Nothing else? No boot up or Windows or driver software issues to deal with? Thanks!

Depends on your Motherboard's CPU SUPPORT list and BIOS version installed.

If the A8-5600K is listed in the CPU SUPPORT LIST for your motherboard then you need to check if you have to update your BIOS to the correct version so that the new APU will be recognized.

It should be a smooth go but without listing your full specs like motherboard brand, RAM brand/type/speed, etc. Any comment is moot. Just an educated guess would be "yes it should work with no additional settings". They take the same FM2 socket.

If you're planning to OC, expect lower peak core frequency with the A8 due to more cores. However, since it has twice the threads and 4 times the cache, overall benchmarks will improve quite a bit going from the 2 core to the 4 core.
