Radeon RX 590 fails frequently but inconsistently

I appreciate that the Radeon RX 590 may be dated, but I've had it, along with the Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core in a desktop and they would work well together.

I've kept my drivers and AMD software up to date, but as time passed, I noticed that more and more frequently the graphics card seems to fail, leading to my HD screens (2 of them) going entirely black, but the PC and the application running continues without issue, since I can hear games continuing and the PC does not itself fail, or restart.

My monitors say that they are no longer receiving an HD signal - so it seems that the card itself is the issue in such circumstances.

This happens with games and Premier Pro video editing software.

Is it simply a case that my hardware can no longer support modern applications, or is there something I can do to support the card that it ceases sending a signal less frequently?

The reference Radeon RX 590 has a single 8-pin PCIe power connection, which means max power draw is less than 225W. The recommended PSU size is 450W.

It could just be that the graphics card is dying. This is the way my old R9 290X went, slowly at first and then suddenly.

MacWimble, make sure all your AMD drivers are DLed from here. Probably best to post on the Graphics Community. John.

Do these instances of signal loss always occur during a GPU load? If so, it could be temperature related. Have you tried using the Metric Overlay in Adrenalin to monitor and/or log stats? Have you removed the card from the system and clean the fans and heatsink? Verify fans still spin freely and no bearing noise? Checked the thermal paste on the GPU die?

Thank you for your reply and assistance.

I've reapplied new thermal cement to the CPU and cleaned the heat sink.

I've reseated the Graphics card, cleaning it of any dust build up too, and the fans are operating and have no sound of any bearing wear or issue.

When monitoring the metric overlay, I can see nothing untoward. The temperature does increase, but the fan increases speed and it feels like things are "normal".

One question though - my power unit for the PC is a 650 W power supply.

Is it possible that the power supply is too small for the requirements of the card?
