Recently I purchased a game off Steam. When I went to go play it it would just crash so I contacted the developers asking what could be wrong, gave them my computer information and everything their response back was that my processor (which is a AMD A8-3520M APU 1.6 GHz) could not handle their game that required a processor equivalent to Intel i5 1.8 GHz. So my question is what AMD processor update will be equivalent to that Intel processor so I can play my game?
Is your computer a Laptop or Desktop?
If a Desktop, what is the Make & Model of your Motherboard?
If a Laptop, what is the exact Make & Model of your Laptop?
This website lists all the compatible CPUs for your laptop that uses FSI Socket: http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/CPUs/AMD/A8-Series_for_Notebooks/A8-3520M.html
The AMD A8-3520M is a Socket FS1 CPU, based on Llano core. There are also 16 AMD Llano microprocessors, that work in the same socket. Below you will find partial characteristics of these processors, as well as stepping information.

Now you need to find out if your laptop is capable of upgrading the CPU and whether it is worthwhile to upgrade. Upgrading your CPU will probably cost as much or nearly as much as purchasing a brand newer Laptop (I talking about parts and labor to replace the CPU).
Reason why I asked if you had a Laptop or Desktop. Sometimes Manufacturers use Mobile CPU/APUs on Desktops models.
Because you have only provided some general info on your system and the game you are trying to play. I can only provide you with some general answers.
INFORMATION REQUIRED WHEN POSTING A QUESTION
You should check with your laptop manufacturer to see if your processor can be updated and what processors are available at this time.
Your motherboard and system BIOS may or may not allow for a processor upgrade.
Here is some info on your processor...http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/K10/AMD-A8-Series%20A8-3520M.html
Also, See the "system requirements" for the game you are trying to play. It will show you the "minimum" AMD and Intel processors that are required to play the game.
This notebook uses AMD's 2011-era mobile APU. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to upgrade this to obtain a significantly higher CPU performance level. The highest APU for the platform is A8-3550MX which is only 2.0 GHz.
Also, there is no APU for this platform with higher integrated graphics performance. Unless the notebook has a discrete graphics chip, then graphics upgrade is not possible.

Better off getting a new rig as the CPU you have is rather old and not powerful enough for modern releases
The newer AMD mobile processors have much better graphics which can play a surprisingly wide range of games.
