PC Crashes while gaming (3700x)

Hi, my PC has been randomly crashing for a while, but it has begun to get especially annoying this past week. Started playing War Thunder, and it will crash not hourly, but minutes after I fire up the game.

My full system specs:

  • 3700x (All stock aside from some boot compatibility settings and fTPM in BIOS)
  • Asrock X470 Taichi w/ Latest BIOS
  • Vega 64 (All stock)
  • G.Skill 2x16GB 3600Mhz
  • Samsung 970 EVO
  • 650W PSU

I think it's my 3700x which is causing the issue. Sifting through Event Viewer's Windows -> System tab, I found the following info:

Event ID 18:

A fatal hardware error has occurred.

Reported by component: Processor Core
Error Source: Machine Check Exception
Error Type: Cache Hierarchy Error
Processor APIC ID: 2

Did a Prime95 test for 15 minutes, nothing looked out of the ordinary. 88W max consumption, settled out at 3.9GHz, and reached 74C. Not really sure where to go from here or if my CPU is just borked.

If you are not running Windows 11, I would disable the fTPM in the BIOS.  I updated the BIOS on my Ryzen-Sun computer (AMD 1800X CPU and Asus Crosshair VI Hero motherboard) and I kept getting reboots or failure to load Windows 10 before I went in and disabled fTPM.  I wanted to prepare it for an upgrade to Windows 11 after upgrading the CPU to a 3,000 series, but now I'm not so sure.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

which 650w PSU? .. for testing purposes, IF you disable PBO and CPB .. does it still crash?

IS your BIOS up to date?

Are you running the latest AM4 Chipset drivers from AMD.com?
