operating temp for Ryzen 5 5600x under load

Hi guys,

I am reading some occasional spikes up to 95 C on my Ryzen 5 5600x under load (playing game for example).

I am currently using stock Wraith cooler.

Are these high temp spikes healthy for my CPU in the long-run? Should I think about getting a better CPU cooler?

If so, I have a mini-ITX and about the same vertical clearance as the stock Wraith cooler; any suggestions for better cooler that is low-profile?

Thanks guys!

Cooling performance will always be compromised with lower profile air coolers and small cases.  The Wraith is not a terrible cooler considering its size.  You might be able to get better cooling with an aftermarket low profile air cooler like, say, a Noctua NH-L12 (just a random one off the top of my head), but I can't imagine the gains will be very large, especially considering the money spent.  But I could be wrong on that - you'll need to look at some reviews.

Do try to make sure you have good airflow into the case.

Ideally, a good 240 or even 280mm AiO would give you the best cooling performance for this CPU, but if the radiator won't fit in the case, you'd need to keep the radiator external and most people probably don't want to do that.

I wouldn't worry about spikes to 95C - the CPU does a very good job of managing itself to keep temps from going above that.  But if it bothers you, you can lower that temp limit to something you're more comfortable with by going into your mobo BIOS and setting a lower Platform Thermal Limit.  If you set that to, say, 80, then the CPU will not exceed that.  You'll lose a bit of performance, but you might not even notice it.
