no post with new build

brand new build.  amd ryzen 9 7950x.  never posts - just sits at the red cpu light.  I read a lot of posts on reddit about just waiting 5+ minutes and it will go away.  So far, no luck.

I took out the graphics card and only 1 stick of memory in A2.  using the onboard hdmi and nothing ever displays on the screen.

I downloaded the latest bios on a usb drive, did the renaming, put the usb drive in the flashback and pressed the button.  greenlight flashed for a while then it stopped.  I took that to mean it was done.  hit the reset cmos button while I was at it.

I was told to try taking off the cooler and make sure the cpu was seated correctly.  I did that, but now when I turn it back on, it just sits with the DRAM light on and no post.

its an asus rog strix x670e-f motherboard am5.

Well, I bought a new motherboard, cpu, and memory...same motherboard didn't work with the new cpu and ram.  they all worked fine with the new motherboard.  I'm rocking now.  Thanks for your help!

I recently had a similar issue on an new ASUS TUF Gaming B650M-Plus build with 2 x 16 GB Gskill memory modules, no POST.

To solve:

  1. Switch off PC, disconnect powercord from power supply
  2. Clear CMOS (shortcut 2 specific pins on your MoBo with a screwdriver etc, see your MoBo Guide for pin location details)
  3. Remove 1 memory stick from slot A2, leaving only the memory in slot B2
  4. Reconnect the power supply cable, boot PC, upon the message "new CPU installed ftpm nv corrupted" hit Y key, POST successful
  5. Switch-off PC, disconnect power cord and re-insert the second memory stick into slot A2 (this time no Clear CMOS of course)
  6. Reconnect power cord, startup PC, system will successfully POST again with 32 GB total memory.

To improve boot time, will take around 1 minute because of memory training

To improve the boot time to 10 -15 s:

- Go into BIOS Advanced mode (F7)

- Select AI Tweaker / AI Overclock Tuner / select EXPO 1 from to pop up menu

- back into AI Tweaker (Esc key), goto DRAM Timing Control and select this and scroll way down to Memory Context Restore, change it from Auto into Enabled

- Exit /Save Changes & Reset

The next boot the DRAM will be re-trained (1 minute) but if you boot again after this training the boot time will be a matter of seconds.

Please don't forget you need to redo this memory tuning changes after each new BIOS flash, the UEFI BIOS parameters are reset to the defaults, causing long boot times again because of the default DRAM training at each boot cycle.

Hi,

that did not work.  Still nothing on the screen.

when I put the stick in just b2, it goes to the red cpu light.  If I put it in a2 only, it just stays at the yellow dram light.  I can flip snack and forth with consistent results.

Disconnect all hardware from your motherboard except PSU, CPU, and Windows Drive.

Turn power back on. If the RED CPU Light still turns on that indicates that it failed the BIOS Test for your processor.

So it is either a defective processor or motherboard or possible PSU.

Note: Make sure you have the 6 or 8 pin CPU AUX power plugged in on your motherboard otherwise it won't boot up.

If it passed the AMD Processor BIOS test during boot up than you should get a DRAM Trouble light  lit on since you have no RAM installed.

Install one stick of RAM and see if it starts to boot up with your Monitor connected to the Motherboard's Video output port.

NOTE: According to your Motherboard's CPU LIST the original Motherboard BIOS version is compatible with your 7700X AMD Processor.

Can you list your PC specs? Ram model and PSU?

I would try flashing the BIOS again, but with the CPU removed if that's possible.  Just have the motherboard and the PSU connected and powered.  Use the BIOS / USB port on the motherboard for this.  For the record, I have never flashed a BIOS without having a working display to view the completion.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

Motherboards like Asus that has the  BIOS FLASHBACK button has a LED light that starts blinking when BIOS is being uploaded. Once the blinking LED stops means that BIOS have successfully uploaded.

It may be different for other motherboards but it still should have a LED next to the BIOS Flashback USB Port to let you know when BIOS has been successfully updated and completed.
