memory compatibility

I have a new Athlon X4 950 cpu installed in a new MSI A320M Pro VHPlus motherboard and PCPartPicker says that DDR4-3000 memory (G-Skill) is compatible.  But I can't get the build to boot.  i have screwed around with this for months and have now ordered a new G-Skill Razor DDR4-2400 8GB (single) DRAM stick but haven't tried it yet.  What gives?
