Here are my system specs:
ASRock Taichi X570
R9 3900x (not OC'd)
32GB DDR4 3200
M.2 SSD for OS, Samsung 970 SSD for games (and an HDD for random media)
EVGA RTX 3900 FTW3
750w PSU (I bought it when I had a 2080TI, and it just barely meets the minimum requirements for the 3090, but the GPU isn't even the issue. It runs at a "fine" temperature.
I recently started playing Last Epoch on my system, which is known to be very CPU intensive. My GPU (air cooled) will stay somewhere south of 70c, but the CPU almost immediately rockets to 90c+ upon launching the game (it's still in beta, and they likely aren't done fully optimizing it).
I checked Ryzen Master, and it reported the same temperature, but I also notice that the EDC is constant over 100%, even well after I've show down the game and temps have returned to normal. I've done a full reboot since the last time I launched the game, and I'm still seeing "EDC: 130% of 90A". I couldn't find anyone else experiencing the same issue.
I switched into Eco Mode using Ryzen Master and rebooted, but I have yet to boot the game and see if there's any difference.
Also, the CPU does not throttle at all, even once it hits 95c, and I still see it running around 3600Mhz with spikes up to 4k+.
I have a new 5900x that I'm going to be swapping in shortly (I have a friend visiting from overseas at the moment, so I didn't want to put her through computer surgery), hoping that it would resolve the temperature issues, but don't yet know if that's the case. I've put my hand against the AIO water cooling block over the CPU, and the pump is definitely running (nor have I ever experienced it leaking or anything way out of the ordinary like that).
I'll be applying new thermal paste when I swap out the CPUs (I've already updated to the newest mobo BIOS), so hopefully that helps a bit too.
I have an triple intake fan on the bottom, a triple exhaust fan on top, and a double exhaust fan on the back.
..but what is the story with the >100% EDC? ..and is that even the culprit? Other demanding games have run fine (a little on the warm side; normal for a 3900x, but never consistently at 90c+.
Any tips would be hugely appreciated.
Thanks very much,
-Aaron
