Changed thermal paste and now gpu wont work in pcie x16 2.0 but only x4 2.0

When I changed the thermal paste on my 2600x I had bent 4 pins when taking off the cooler, however I did bend them back to the point I don't remember where it was anymore. Can anyone tell me what I need to do thanks.

I would start searching if there is an option on BIOS to select lanes for that PCI slot.
No luck with the first? Do a CMOS clear.
Then I would take out the GPU, clean the contacts and reseat.
Inspect the CPU slot for damage.
Try the CPU/GPU in another computer.
Inspect the board for damaged components.

This user had board issues causing the slot to fail.

But you may have a damaged CPU in the end..

Good Luck

Since all this happened after you repaired the bent pins on the CPU and the first PCIe slot on the Motherboard (normally the GPU Slot) is controlled by the CPU does indicate the CPU is damaged or one of the 4 pins may have broken after you installed it.

Best way to check the CPU is by installing it in another compatible Motherboard and see if the same thing occurs or not.

As mentioned physically inspect the Motherboard's CPU Socket for damage and CPU pins that your straightened out.
