I have a motherboard MSI A78 G41 PC MATE. CPU Athlon x4 860k is compatibile but x4 870k isn't. MSI support told me " Support for the athlon x4 870k processor has not been added for technical reasons." Please, could You tell me the technical reasons why x4 870k is incompatibile? Regards.

Just MSI not wanting to add it, but there's no real advantage to the 870 over the 860, only 200mhz difference, and Socket FM2 is long since discontinued.

Thank you for answer. My problem is that, I had bought Athlon x4 870k before I checked compatibility and my computer with this CPU gives me bluescreens with communique "kernel security check failure". I don't know what I should do now. If you have any ideas, I will be grateful.

There's not much you can do aside from setting the multiplier and voltage manually in BIOS, but if your motherboard can't detect it properly you will quite likely have no choice except to buy a new motherboard or computer.
