I have an AMD ryzen 7 5800x socket AM4 on a Msi b550 tomahawk motherboard and was wondering if i was to get another cpu like say the ryzen 9 5900 or similar what would the advantages be. And would it work on that board being a socket AM4

1) what would the working temp be like compared to the 5800x as that runs very hot while gaming.
2) would i see much benefit swapping cpus. 

3) is it worth the extra money.

please let me know your thoughts

If you can somehow grab a AM4 X3D chip, then its worth it.

Its time to save the money and move on to AM5. The platform has matured a lot and a 9600X will outmatch the 5900X now.
