Hello,
i have problem with brand new custom build PC, which randomly freeze without any schema. At BIOS, Windows OS, Memtest, Windows Live USB, Linux Live USB, everywhere! It could post and freeze after 30sec on ASUS Mootherboard logo or boot memtest and done 10sec to 10min test. Random times, random moments. After freeze screen stay at last process, keyboard and mouse doesn't work, only hard reset work. Debug LEDs doesn't show anything, all LED are turned off, Error Screen show 30, 33, 34 which probably mean last temperature of CPU before PC freeze - for example memtest show similar temp on frozen screen.
Spec:
AMD Threadripper 7960X + Alphacool Eisbauer 420 Pro + Thermal Gizzly Kryonaut
ASUS Pro WS TRX-50 SAGE WIFI with latest BIOS 0702
4x Samsung 128GB ECC RDIMM DDR5 M321RAGA0B20-CWKZJ - they are on ASUS motherboard support list
GPU: 2x RTX 4090 tested (same problem), but now i using my test GPU - GT710
Rest doesn't matter, because with minimal setup PC still has got a problems. Now, what i've done:
1. Tested in PC case and on the "box"
2. Tested all 4 RAM, singly in all DIMM slots. Configuration: Single, dual and quad configuration. Default settings.
3. I install new alphacool radaitors for water cooling on RAM because its get very hot. After installed radaitors and put temperature sensor in, max temperature i notice was 50-55C (only radiators, no full water cooling).
4. Used 3 PSU 850W (Lian Li SFX GOLD, brand new), 1000W (be quiet! Platinum, used for tests) nad 1500W (be quiet! Gold, brand new) on all same problem
5. I send motherboard for RMA and bought new one - still same problem
I didn't replace for CPU and other kind (model) of RAM, only used 4 pcs which i had - Samsung 128GB. I order brand new CPU 7960X and 32GB Samsung RDIMM ECC RAM, all for testing.
But maybe you had a similar problem and resolved it? Maybe some BIOS settings? I'm slowly running out of ideas, I'm exhausted from constantly testing this computer, because no matter what I do, nothing works.
PaTri4rch, have you tested all the memory? W11 has a utility; enter mdsched.exe in a Run dialog or Command Prompt (Administrative). I would suggest with all that memory and processor more power is better. I would suggest at least 1000 Watts. If Windows does open, please look in the Event Viewer for Critical errors and post a few screenshots of the Details tab. Have you installed the AMD drivers from here? Are you sure the cold block covers all the processor's heat spreader (under top)? Thanks, John.
Yes, i tested all memory module in every possible ways.
1. All 4 modules in as a quad channel, 3 PSUs
2. All 4 modules, as a single channel in every DIMM slot (even not according to instructions - to exclude DIMM slot is damaged), 2 PSUs
3. Dual Channel mode with 2 PSU
This is dual PSU configuration, Lian Li 850W SFX for a Motherboard, CPU and other components (fans, pumps etc) and be quiet! Straight Power 12 1500W for GPUs only. But i think power isn't a problem, i pluged in watt metter in power outlet and power consumption on configuration without RTX4090 was on 200-210W on both PSUs and PC still freezes.
I managed to install Windows 11 Pro, tried to run Cinebench benchmark for CPU temp test (it's about 65-70C), but test never finished. Event viewer show only power-kernel critical event which was caused by turning off pc by me. Of course all newest dirvers was installed from ASUS Aromory Crate.
But even without OS problem occurs - in BIOS, bootable pendrive, memtest etc. Now i testing this with minimal required configuration - CPU, RAM, PSU, GPU (only for monitor).
AI had to remove the cooler to remove the processor to return the motherboard for a complaint. I reconnected everything in the new motherboard, with new paste, and that didn't help either. I read that if the cooler is pressed too hard against the processor, it can also cause problems. For this reason, I loosened the screws holding the water block, the temperatures are still low (in Memtest 28-37C), and the problem still occurs.
PaTri4rch, do NOT get any software including drivers from your MB vendor. Get all AMD drivers here. Post a screenshot of Ryzen Master (RM) running Cinebench R24 Multicore. Do NOT loosen the screws on your cold block. Read the instructions on your cooler. I tighten mine till they bottom out. Stick with the 1000 Watt PS for now. John.
