9900X CPU Makes Music Production Impossible

I’ve discovered that the essential licensing software for music production, iLok License Manager, does not run on the 9900X. Additionally, the DAW program Cakewalk, while it installs on the 9900X, does not function properly when executed. UA Connect, which is necessary to use UAD plugins, also fails to run. Since many programs, virtual instruments, and plugins rely on iLok License Manager, it is currently impossible to produce music on the 9900X.

I’ve seen other users on Reddit experiencing the same issues with the 9900X and 9950X. It’s surprising to see such problems with well-established programs like iLok and Cakewalk, which have been consistently updated and have run smoothly on any computer until now. I hope AMD can provide a solution to this issue soon.

Hardly to say. I have opened tab in my browser for my specific MOBO, and I look there sometimes to see if new BIOS release is available. https://pl.msi.com/Motherboard/MAG-X670E-TOMAHAWK-WIFI/support

Ok, I'll probably do it that way too. Thank you.

I just added two new VST's I didn't own before but reaper finds them, then failed to load them. Will someone check if this 30d trial version works https://www.pspaudioware.com/products/psp-saturator ? Then I will know If it's the AMD bug or something else...

I’ve just invested in an X870E motherboard and 9950X CPU and this thread made me nervous that it’s 2 months with no fix!

I have a UAD Spark and Slate Digital annual subscription paid upfront and only 2 months into it, so, despite having just made a hefty investment into Amy new AMD setup, my motherboard and CPU may have to be RMA’d due to not being fit for purpose and I may have to consider an Intel setup instead if it’s not fixed imminently!

Probably early November is what has been said for the fix release, it is in testing now apparently. No, you will not be notified when the fix is released. You will have to check in with your motherboard provider.

MSI already have the 7E49v1A12 Beta BIOS for the X870E MPG Carbon WiFi that I use, which has the AGESA 1.2.0.2 update to improve performance and reduce CCD delays etc, which is what I think what you mention refers to.

Nope, we have to wait for 1.2.0.2A

The version without the A doesn't fix anything in this case.

Is there any indication kid this will also fix the USB issue? On my X870E Carbon WiFi board, I am experiencing the exact same issues as X570 had some 3 years ago that needed an AGESA fix from AMD, when any USB3.0 or later protocol device doesn’t work in the USB A ports and just gives the constant disconnects rendering them unusable, with Device Manager displaying Unknown USB Device errors.

Oh, I haven't heard anything about that yet. Sorry.

With my x670e, everything seems to be working fine with USB. I had a few problems with the eLicenser at first, but they suddenly disappeared.

I have just updated to the latest BIOS version and.. everything WORKS!

AGESA 1.2.0.2a fixed all the issues with iLok and Pro Tools for me!

MSI has released 1.2.0.2A BIOS today

But apparently not for the x670e Carbon.

It isn't on the download page.

That's great news !!!

So we should see it coming anytime soon on other Manufacturers.

Has anyone tested this BIOS with Zen 5?  My MOBO + CPU is still out of the box.

MSI just released the 1.2.0.2a for the x670e Carbon Mainboard today. I'll install that tonight. I'm pretty nervous about that.

AsRock has also released it for :
X300M-STX
X870 Pro RS
X870 Pro RS WiFi
X870 Riptide WiFi
X870 Steel Legend WiFi
X870E Nova WiFi
X870E Taichi
X870E Taichi Lite

Any have an ASUS update yet?

Ilok have identified an issue with the AMD “Zen 5” based CPU microarchitecture that affects iLok-enabled software. This issue prevents the software from running correctly on Windows systems with these CPUs.

The problem is due to a bug in the CPU itself, which impacts the way certain protection features in iLok-enabled software work. We have reported the issue to AMD, who have acknowledged the problem and given the following response:

The following AMD firmware updates will enable PACE iLok Anti-Piracy software to run on AMD “Zen 5” based processors:

AMD AM5 Desktop AGESA ComboAM5 1.2.0.2A or later.
AMD FP8 Notebook AGESA StrixPI-FP8 1.0.0.1B or later.

These updates will be included in an upcoming BIOS release from your desktop or notebook manufacturer. They will appear in production BIOSes once your manufacturer has completed QA testing to ensure stability and reliability.

See “How to update/flash a Motherboard’s BIOS” at https://community.amd.com/t5/pc-building-how-to-articles/how-to-update-flash-a-motherboard-s-bios/ta....

A new version of iLok License Support (5.9.1 or later) is available, which allows iLok License Manager to function on machines with AMD “Zen 5” based CPUs. You can download this version from iLok.com.

Important!

While this update works around issues with iLok License Manager and License Support on AMD “Zen 5” based CPUs, it does not resolve problems with iLok-enabled software from other vendors. If you encounter issues with other software, please contact the vendor for an update, or apply the latest BIOS/CPU updates from AMD when they become available in November.

For further updates, please monitor this FAQ entry or contact AMD directly.

Guys, it works. Installed my MOBO + CPU to the case, updated BIOS ... run the OS, run the DAW, all works without any issues. I'm happy now with my 9950X. What a huge performance boost.

Thank you AMD.

Yep, my OC is finally running as it should. And it now runs extremely smoothly. In comparison, my previous one was a pre-medieval slide rule.

Hey guys!

I had similar issues with Soundtoys and Softube plug-ins. Softube Central would not even install the plugins and both set of plugins would end up in the "failed to scan" list in Reaper.

I solved the Sountoys issue by moving the licences from the "Machine activated" to the iLok dongle but still struggled with the Softube ones.

Well I'm very happy to share that updating the BIOS on my x870e Taichi Lite from 305 to 310 and then updating the chipset driver fixed everything so fare.

The latest BIOS on my board was released on October 24th so it's pretty recent.

I hope this helps solve the issue for a lot of you! Let me know if it helped you!

Cheers!

MyASUS now has the PL  1.2.0.2a Up, just got the email notice and have downloaded it. It is listed as 3056.

I am currently using the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 GA605WI laptop equipped with the Ryzen AI 9 370HX CPU. However, I still cannot work on music production because of iLok key authentication issues that prevent plugin scanning. AMD mentioned they would release a BIOS update in early November, but the problem has yet to be resolved. When will I finally be able to use my laptop for music production?

HWISUNG, the BIOS update was released, see above. Contact your laptop vendor to get the update. Main board builders are responsible for the BIOS code. John.

Are you an AMD support technician? I cannot find the BIOS compatible with my laptop. If you know, please check the BIOS link for me.

HWISUNG, this is a user forum and we seldom see an AMD employee here. See the ASUS BIOS updates here. It does not look like they have released a BIOS update since AMD released their update for the music industry. In any case you should contact your laptop vendor for any updates. If you would like to talk to AMD, open a support ticket here. John.

I already tried the BIOS update available at the provided link before you mentioned it, but it didn’t resolve the issue at all. So, I believe this might have been resolved only for desktop motherboards, not for others.

HWISUNG, look at the information of the BIOS update. It is too old to contain the AMD fix. Instead of speculating on what the problem might be, TALK to your Laptop vendor! John.
