7900X3D fails on POST

I've had a 7900X3D for a few weeks now in an ASUS ROG Strix X670E-A motherboard. After a windows 11 update tonight, the POST stopped at the red POST status light (CPU). I restarted it a few times and even tried letting it run for several minutes, but it never progressed past the red light. I didn't hear any beeps on my speaker either.

Is there something wrong with the CPU? And is there another way to test it?

Im sure your cpu is fine. Id look elsewhere.

either a bad motherboard or bad processor or possibly a bad PSU.

First do a CMOS CLEAR and reset your BIOS to Default and see if it boots up. if it doesn't follow the next steps.

You can physically check the PSU with a Multimeter and see if you are getting 5.0 & 12 & 3.3 VDC outputs.

Since it isn't booting up remove/disconnect all hardware from your Motherboard except your Windows drive, PSU, and CPU.

Power up and see if the CPU Trouble RED LED Light goes on and then off and the RAM TROUBLE LED lights up.

If when booting up the CPU Trouble RED LED Light goes on and then off and the RAM TROUBLE LED lights up then install one stick of RAM and boot up again. See if both CPU and RAM Trouble LED lights goes on and off and the GPU or SYSTEM Trouble LED comes on.

Once you have the RAM installed you can connect your monitor and see if it boots into Windows or not even though you have no GPU card installed unless you are using the IGPU. But if you get the SYSTEM Trouble LED light then it won't boot up into Windows and it could indicate a bad Windows Drive.

But if it stays on the CPU Trouble RED LED Light  then that means that BIOS tested the processor and found something wrong and stopped the booting process until it is fixed.

Best way to find out if it is your processor or the motherboard is either install a different compatible processor or have your processor installed in another PC and see if it does the same thing. You can take your processor to a local computer shop or use in a family or friend's PC.

I would also open a AMD SUPPORT - Warranty Ticket and see if they believe your processor needs to be RMAed to be checked or replaced from here: https://www.amd.com/en/forms/contact-us/support.html

Why would a windows update, blow the board, the cpu, or the psu?

Naw, he needs to go back to simple. Look at the small things. And the windows update, didnt do it either.

kinda hard to do anything simple when his PC doesn't boot up due to CPU failing the BIOS test during the booting process (RED CPU TROUBLE LED LIGHT CONSTANTLY ON).

I popped in a borrowed Ryzen 5 today, and it booted right up. Now I'm waiting to hear back on my warranty request.

Since your PC was working normally until your last Windows 11 update, it probably was just a coincidence that you had a hardware failure.

Since another processor works fine that is a good indication that your Motherboard is good and the problem is with your CPU processor.

Good luck on your Warranty replacement. Also please post back if the Replacement works fine afterwards.
