Hello I have a 7800X3D and every is great except on cold startup the iGPU will crash anywhere between 2-10 times before it stabilities.
This appears to be a COLD START fault.
If I don't use the iGPU it isn't a problem and the CPU part does not crash on cold start.
This issue occurs under LINUX and WINDOWS of all versions.
I CANNOT RMA the CPU as I need it to do work, I can't go 6wks without a main PC to use!
What can be done? I live in Australia, so am protected under ACL but again I can't wait around for a repair job on a intermittent issue like this.
Should I ring AMD Australia and try to get a replacement sent out first? WHAT do I do?
theriddick, I would sure call AMD if possible and see what you can talk them into. Is it possible to leave the machine powered full time? John.
Unfortunately South Australia has some of the most expensive electricity costs in the world so that isn't really possible. Trying to save money wherever I can.
First, check if the memories are stable when using a dedicated graphics, dGPU. iGPU must be disabled.
After making sure that the memories would be stable in the configuration you use, go to the BIOS and look for the option where you select the static amount of memory that the iGPU will use. Add as much memory as you feel is necessary to make the system work, remembering that the iGPU is suitable for common use and not for games.
I don't believe there is such option. Also memory was stability tested with memtest not long ago.
This issue is exclusive to using iGPU!
Same here.
MarthaGordan, you probably do not have the same problem. Open a new thread post all your parts, symptoms and OC settings. Try doing a Clear CMOS and see if that helps. John.
So atm the iGPU only folds if I turn off the PC for a few minutes and boot into windows or linux and do some video/web browsing (stress igpu), and it will crash usually just once.
This isn't too bad, hopefully it doesn't go back to the 2-10x crash issue and who knows why it got that bad originally. Such is intermittent issues is this.
Eventually I'll replace this with a 9000 X3D chip, if a 12 or 16 core one ever gets made. The normal 9000 series CPU's aren't doing too well atm performance wise.
The CPU has gone back to failing around 10 times when iGPU is in use.
This ranges from:
Immediate crashes the second a page or anything is done on the desktop.
Desktop or login screen graphical corruption.
Failure after 2mins or more.
Failure only when playing VIDEO.
Failure resulting in entire system reboot.
AGAIN ONLY WHEN iGPU ACTIVE AND DOING SOMETHING.
My reason for not immediately RMA'ing this CPU is that I don't have a replacement and I need to access my main PC which this CPU is in. I can't have 6 week downtime so I'm just going to wait for 9000X3D CPU's and upgrade to one of those hoping the iGPU faults were only present in the 7000 series.
PS. If you do a google and reddit search you will find a history of AMD iGPU failures like this.
PS2. AMD should send me a 7800X3D replacement so I can send this one back, it should be put under a microscope to ensure this sort of die failure doesn't keep happening in the iGPU component.
theriddick, request warranty service here. John.
Yeah I put in the RMA now. However there is no way I can just send in the CPU and sit around for 2months for a replacement. This is the predicament. I don't have spare 8 core AM5 cpus laying around with iGPU! (my requirements atm)
theriddick, this is a user forum and we seldom see an AMD person here. You can try AMD online support and calling your country AMD people. Best of luck, John.
