5900x event 46 XMP

I moved from a 5600 which was a pretty great CPU but I moved to a 5900x. Was a bit hot even opening two things at one time (chrome and discord) made the CPU spike from 47 to 65 degrees and I found it a bit concerning but I just thought it was normal for a 105w chip (if it isn't normal, leave a little note below). But I found that with XMP on, the computer blue screens if the cpu gets hit with something cpu and ram intensive like vr. Even booting steam vr from oculus crashes my pc, even playing Minecraft caused the pc to go under. When XMP is off, it just stays happy after my little tests with vr and some other apps that are more cpu hungry and it is fine. BIOS was reset on my mb and all so I am unsure what is the cause for XMP to crash my pc after the upgrade to 5900x

It is not unusual for the CPU temperature to increase when running multiple applications simultaneously, such as Chrome and Discord. However, a temperature spike from 47 to 65 degrees Celsius is generally within an acceptable range for a 105W chip like the AMD Ryzen 5900X. While it may seem concerning, these temperature fluctuations are typically well within the operating limits of the processor.

pretty easy of an answer nowadays, either faulty RAM or faulty memory controller on the cpu or incompatible Ramkit or overburdening the memory controller with a Ramkit running too high a frequency or outdated BIOS on the motherboard.

What Ram do you use? Do a memtest x86 with XMP on, youtube tutorials are out there on how to do it, and see if the Ram is ok. if the RAM is ok and you don´t run above 3200mhz/3600mhz ramspeeds, I would just try a single stick of RAM with XMP on and see if VR and games still crash the PC, if that´s the case, update your motherboard BIOS. If Memtextx86 came out ok, if you updated the BIOS, if you checked that your RAM is properly seated in your RAMslots and if your RAM is compatible with the mobo/cpu, i´m honestly at my wits end and I would just say, try a different ramkit/mobo and if the issue still persists, warranty the 5900X as it could be a faulty memory controller in the worst case.

of course googling that error code on your mobo, if you have a PostcodeLED, would help tremendously as well.

Thank you but I reached out and handed over my dmp files to microsoft support and found the cpu to be at fault. And to answer your question I have a 64 4x16 3200mhz c16. Ran Windows test and found no errors as I would take from my 5600 I used to use just before my upgrade. Haven't checked if the cpu will crash xmp disabled as I didn't do long testing with it. If I get to know what is broken, I will put in a RMA and hope I get a fresh working cpu

Yeah, the memory controller it is then. Let´s hope a cpu swap fixes it.
