5800x3d slow multicore load clocks with r23

Hello,

i just upgraded from a 3700x to a 5800x3d. i have the following setup:

asus strix b550-e
2x16 gb ram @ 3600mhz (docp)
5800x3d (stock)
nh-u12a (2fans)
3080 10gb
w10

after installing the cpu, i did CMOS reset. and tested the cpu with r23 benchmark on multicore. I noticed the following:

Bios: 2806 with agesa 1.2.0.7
Score 14000-14150
All core clocks: 4.125- 4.175Mhz
Max temp: 76degrees celsius

Bios: 3001 with agesa 1.2.0.8
same as 2806

Bios: 2604 with agesa 1.2.0.6b
Score 14500-14700
All cores: 4.300-4.325 mhz
max temp:84degrees celsius

did they nerf the cpu after agesa 1.2.0.6b ? is it a bios bug for b550 ?
Ryzen master shows the chip is not even reaching its limits...

i know i can use PBO2 ..but i would like to understand whats happening on stock config.

thank you

christizzz, please post screenshots of Ryzen Master (RM) both Basic and Advanced Views running Cinebench R23, images of RM only. Did you install a fresh copy (format install disk) of Windows and get all AMD drivers for here? I do not understand what your are complaining about. Thanks and enjoy, John.

christizzz, please stay away from such programs as Hydra until we know what is going on. Thanks and enjoy, John.

you can see higher clock (4.3) and settings closer to the limits

Thanks, christizzz. What's the difference? Is the second with OC? Both look fine to me. If you are trying to get to 4.5 GHz, then multi-core Cinebench will not get you there. Each has a little different  conditions for the limit reached. For approaching the limit of 4.5 GHz you need to run single core. Please hover on the Max. Boost Clock i. Enjoy, John.

the difference between the 2 is only the bios version. Both tests are with  stock settings. As described in my post:

  • with the the bios 2806 (agesa 1.2.0.7): i get 4.1 all cores
  • with the bios 2604 (agesa 1.2.0.6b): i get 4.3 all cores

same cooling, only different bioses. what botheers me is that the cpu doesnt push to its power limits with the new Bios, which explains the 4.1 all core

Thanks, christizzz. You need to talk to your MB vendor about the BIOSes. I think all is fine.  The second RM post is throttling due to two yellow and two red meters in RM. I also think that you are not familiar with AMD's definition of Max. Boost Clock:

These limits that are causing throttling can be raised but may void your warranty. So, run the single core Cinebench R23. I will post an RM screenshot on how to increase limits if you like.  Thanks and enjoy, John.

hello again, i think you misunderstood my problem. I have no problem with throttling and/or MAX boost...  pls check my first post again and 2 pictures from RM

Old BIOS ( agesa 1.2.0.6b):  i am getting 4.3 on an ALL CORE test :  Power and Temps are CLOSE to the Limits

New Bios ( agesa 1.2.0.7): i am getting 4.1 on ALL CORE test : Power and Temps are Not close to the Limits ----> my problem: shouldnt the CPU  push higher ? it still has Power and Temp headroom

christizzz, your problem is with the MB vendor. They are responsible for the BIOS code. AMD supplies the AGESA , SOC code and more maintenance code. The MB team puts it all together and sets the limits you see in RM.  If their VRM is a little weak, then they may lower the limits  and performance will suffer. A strong (many Phase) VRM will be worth the money. My Gigabyte MB has "16+3 Phases Infineon Digital VRM Solution with 70A Power Stage" and I have never had any trouble. Enjoy, John.

I have the same issue, mine is watercooled and was running 4450 all core in cinebench all day. now it looks like it is locked around 4300 and I have no idea what changed. anyone has an idea how to fix? no throttling on my end.

Cptcosmic, please open a new topic. Post screenshots of Ryzen Master both Basic and Advanced views running Cinebench R23, images of RM only. Please use the camera icon to post the screenshots. Thanks and enjoy, John

EDIT: Throttling is starting as noted by the yellow meters in RM. It is strange that all cores are at exactly thew same frequency. Need to see the requested RM screenshots.
