Hey all, I'm not sure if this could be GPU related but at this point I've tried so much and maybe somebody here knows something.
I've had this GPU with a Quest 2 since end of March 2024 and everything worked fine. Then around November 2024, link started crashing mid-game.
To describe the crash: it doesn't actually crash the headset, the link environment just freezes and if I look around, it leaves a trail behind (like in Windows, when you drag around a frozen window and it kind of leaves a trail of windows). I can press the Meta button and exit link normally, the headset still works fine.
At that point I:
- tried all the different usb ports on my PC
- bought a new link cable
- tried reinstalling the Oculus software
- reinstalled Steam VR and gpu drivers
- checked my RAM health
- made sure my CPU wasn't overloaded
None of this helped. I ended up doing a factory reset on my Quest 2 which did fix the issue for a week or so, then it crashed again. After that I ended up getting a refund for my Quest 2 since it looked like the headset was the issue.
I got my Quest 3 this week, plugged it in and it immediately crashed.
I uninstalled Oculus software, deleted all the files that are leftover in local/locallow/roaming, restarted pc, installed it again and that fixed it for a few hours that evening.
Next day it crashed again and the reinstall didn't work anymore.
I've also now tried:
- reinstalling USB drivers
- ran the fixer.exe and drivers.exe that are in the oculus folder
- reinstalled the oculus software AGAIN
This didn't work so I ended up reinstalling Windows and it still doesn't work
It might be worth noting that only the link cable connection doesn't work, Airlink works but lags way too much to play anything or stream.
It can't be the headset since I got a new one and the same issue persists and I also have a new cable.
I've ordered a separate PCIE usb card thingamajig now, hoping that will solve the issue, but really wondering if it could be the GPU drivers causing this, since that's what everyone mentions immediately after I describe the issue.
I did message Meta Support and after telling them all of the above, they asked "are you connecting to a PC?" so my hopes of them being of any use are quite low. They've now said my PC isn't compatible which is silly, since I was able to use link for almost a year before. It worked even before I got this GPU and I had an ancient one before.
Any insight here would be really appreciated and thank you if you made it to the end of this novel, I am getting really desperate for help.
All the love!
Anja
