Updating from integrated Graphics an Old HP with new GPU

I am trying to update an old HP Pavilion. I purchased an RX 580 and a new power supply. I have installed everything but when I turn on the computer I just get a black screen. All the fans spin on cpu and gpu coolers. When i disconnect the GPU the computer functions as it did before. I am not sure what to do. Any help would be much appreciated.I am trying to update an old HP Pavilion. I purchased an RX 580 and a new power supply. Brand new hardware can have compatibility issues with old hardware, especially cheap OEM machines not designed to handle anything like it. My advice would be to buy a used card of the same era as the machine.

Is the display cable plugged into the GPU when you get the black screens?

Is the PCIe slot set to Enabled in the BIOS?
