RX580 outputs square glitch/artifacts on load and crashes.

Hello,

I have Strix RX580 8GB and it keeps crashing on heavy load. First, it outputs purple/glitch square artifacts, then completely crashes with single colour output or if lucky, i get BSOD "VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE" with some a*******.sys failure.

Issue started, when I moved my pc in a car. It was sitting vertically(bad idea), so gpu was probably making stress on pci-e because it's quite heavy card. After I moved, I plugged in pc, and i had purple cube artifacts on Startup (BIOS).

Card was perfectly fine and well, until i moved PC.

The guess of mine of the issue is about the pci-e connection. Because on Idle, if i wiggle card a bit, it creates mini square artifacts but does not crash, doing same on other gpu won't do anything. Futhermore, i was able to stop Furmark before card completely crashed, and it gave me error message, that some address 0x51651561 could not be read.

Maybe it was bad luck, but I don't think the VRAM or the chip itself is bad, because it only started doing so after moving the PC. Could be that it shorted something when after moving pc I turned it on or the physical stress of heavy card while moving made micro fractures in PCB.

Testing on other system first try, it could run furmark 24/7 with no crashes at all! Until i touched the card itself and all of the issues came back. Tried reseating card few times but haven't got lucky.

But maybe you could tell me what could gone wrong here or what I could try?

Note:

PC is totally fine. Can stress my other gpu fully, game, no issues at all. Tried moving card to other pci-e slot or completely other system, does same. Tried different drivers, completely reinstalled windows on SSD.

happened to me a couple of years ago i'm afraid it's bricked aka over cooked due to crazy default fan setting and to high default voltages in radeon drivers.

Let me guess you have driver timeouts?? reverting your personal fan and voltage setting to amd radeon defaults, causing your gpu to get over cooked.

Im afraid your rx580 is done for, i had the same output screen as you have and i tried lowering frequency and voltages but the damage was all ready done at this point.

Sorry for your loss.

It is still under warranty but still AMD GOTTA FIX THEIR DRIVERS! I tried underclocking and it wasn't crashing till yesterday, I was playing Phasmophobia with a friend and the game crashed with those square dots thing, and I don't know if the pc was idle I was afk and it crashed by itself. I got an Intel i5 12400F 16 GB 3200MHZ crucial RAM  and a gigabyte h610M motherboard

look i had the same things that are happening to you right now including this new additional information, exactly the same things, the damage has been done, unrepairable damage!

Like i said that card is toast, no matter what you try it will keep crashing until one day it wont work at all.

I even tried new cooling paste work for short while but the artefacting keeps returning, until one day i wanted to start up my pc and it did nothing, card not working, tried new power supply nothing, tried new motherboard aka totally new pc, tried it in there nothing dead gpu.

Take your warranty and demand a new one, don't let them send it back to fix it, demand a new one, or money back.

If you do get a new one make sure you use your own fan curve, i have been telling about this for years now, and nobody seems to be listing at amd, their default fan curves are crazy, total burn out crazy, life span of 2 years 2 months depending how often you use it.

In my case often so it burned out in no time but just outside the warranty.

Stop wasting your time, get that new one under warranty today!!

sorry don't use any discord stuff, btw why wait until it breaks any further get that thing out of your pc it's faulty, broken, why risk the chance you forget or that it keeps working(with glitches) for while until warranty expires and card is kaput, broken gone to the gpu cartoon fields op glory!!

I did the same you did, even to change the fans, replaced cooling paste, put extra fan pointing to it, a waste of time and money.

Believe me when i say that card is done for, safe yourself the hassle get that warranty while you can, don't make the same mistakes as i did by trying to fix something that is broken beyond repair

Exchange that card for a new one that works without spending money and time on something that is broken anyway.

I can't help you any furter then what i already told you you could try, but man if you go down that rabbit hole, waste your time on getting the card out put it back in the box it came with get your receit, go to the store you bought it from and exchange at the spot.

I think you damaged the RX 580 GPU with physical stress to it's PCIe connector.  Your card likely has microcracks in the contacts that touch the motherboards PCIe slot.  I doubt you can repair the GPU and I would consider it a 'lesson learned' about transporting a computer with the GPU inserted in the PCIe slot and no support for the GPU.

As Albert Einstein said, "I could have done so much more with a Big Al's Computer!".

I think I fixed it by turning off the zero rpm setting in the AMD adrenaline software and I also underclocked the GPU a bit and guess what I am not facing any crashes @chris1969  @BigAl01 . I thought these Phantom gaming GPUs ran hot but now it doesn't pass 61 degrees Celsius while playing god of War at its original settings.  Changed the fan curves by watching a YT video. Hope this helps some other ppl in the future
