Hello
My RX 7900 XTX driver keeps crashing, usually in the main menu while playing Age of Empires IV.
Screens turn black, game crashes, driver crashes and asks me to send a bug report (which I did many times, but nothing has been fixed).
This happens at stock settings, no overclock.
If I increase the power target, the crash happens almost instantly.
I'm running it on a 1200W PSU with 3 separate PCIe power cables and I've also tried replacing the PSU - no difference.
Other specs are:
XFX RX 7900 XTX MERC 310
Ryzen 5900x
2x16GB 3000MHz memory
MSI B550 M PRO-VDH WIFI
Win 11 Pro 22H2
I've noticed that the GPU clock goes way beyond the max clock when it crashes.
This happens on stock in the main menu (3056Mhz clock):
Do I have to RMA my card or this is a known driver issue? (When will it be fixed? It has been almost 4 months.)
Or are there any other solutions to the problem? My current workaround is reducing the power target and/or reducing the maximum clock lower than stock.
I also don't understand why it boosts over 100Mhz higher than max boost clock.
Solved! Go to Solution.
That gpu is factory overclocked, and not every factory OC GPU is stable. I would return it since it runs stable by reducing power or clocks lower than a stock GPU.

With all due respect... this is just a huge pile of horse poop.
How is that even acceptable that the solution is "Just return the gpu haha".
Imagine paying 3-4 grand to build a system that doesn't work half the time.
I would suggest looking at my post:
In my opinion, Adrenaline is way overclocking 7000 series cards. Research your card's max clock speed and see what Adrenaline is attempting to run it at.
If I am not mistaken, your card's max game clock is up to 2175 MHz and boost clock, up to 2535 MHz. Try reducing your max to 2350 and reducing your voltage by 100. I am not 100% certain what your settings on the 7900 will look like. Do your research.
