Radeon 5500 XT and dual port cable resolution

I bought a Radeon 5500XT recently and I am trying to connect it to a 30" Dell monitor. The monitor only has DVI output, it's an older monitor.

I connected it using a dualport DVI to DP cable but the max resolution I am getting is 1280x800. How can I get higher resolution?

This monitor used to be connected to an Nvidia 1060 ti video card using a DVI to HDMI cable and it worked fine, got the correct higher resolution for the monitor. But it's not working with the Radeon card. I tried the a cable I used with the Nvidia, but that didn't work. 

Any ideas?

Correction, it was connected using a DVI to DVI cable to the nVidia 1060.

you will need a dual link active adapter to get your monitor to work. I just got done dealing with this today got one for about 45$ on amazon.
