So correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it FreeSync is a Display Protocol.
Furthermore, unless I'm mistaken FreeSync HDR uses a smaller bandwidth than Native HDR (HDR10/HDR10+/HLG) which I believe is sent via additional Metadata in the Standard Display Protocol.
This should mean that via FreeSync., it should be possible to have a 2160p60 HDR10 on a HDMI 2.0 Connection...?
Yet, without VRR Support... you can't enable FreeSync, as it will say that it isn't supported by your Display.
Don't get me wrong here., VRR is a nice technology and useful.
Still I'm just thinking it would be really useful, even if it's not the intended purpose of FreeSync to allow (and encourage) manufacturers to support FreeSync HDR even if they don't support VRR?
It just seems to me that having to chose between 2160p60 HDR 8bit RGB 4:4:4 with Dithering, 2160p60 HDR10 YCrBr 4:2:2 and 2160p60 HDR10 RGB 4:4:4 on a HDMI 2.0 Connection is a little frustrating; when FreeSync HDR could enabled 2160p60 HDR10 RGB.
