Hi I am new here...
Since 2024 my MSI MECH OC 5600XT now identifies as an ASUS 5600XT, I know in my heart I should except this and move on with my life, joking aside; There is my reddit and some other Sapphire 5600XT post who has noticed this. Device manager, Gpu-z, Radeon Auto-detect driver installer and various games all see it a an ASUS. I have confirmed that no one would swap out my GPU as a lame practical joke. I assumed it was the 24.1.1 driver, I just did the 24.2.1 hoping that would fix it (factory reset) but it still auto-detected as ASUS. I have the usual ideas; DDU, windows reinstall, but that other reddit post mentioned these & I fear it will be a waste of time, plus reinstalling win11 who needs that.
Thoughts...
R7 5700X(eco mode), MSI tomahawk B550, Fury OC-ed 3600 c16 {XMP 3200 c16}, MSI mech OC 5600XT. M.2 gen3/M.2 gen4
I updated [in the last two weeks] win11 pro 23h2, update adrenaline to 24.1.1 and a BIOS update 7C91vAF [it that order] before I noticed. Now 24.2.1
Any ideas to help me understand.
Guess it is a bug in driver I.D., send a bug report.
Yep did that, I am thinking if the auto-detect install picks it up as ASUS could it be a windows issue. My concern here is; Would the card be used by windows, games & the driver any differently if I actually had an ASUS in respect of VRAM, boost clocks, wattage delivery etc?
With all the recent changes in the software it may be better to clean install the driver/software, not use auto detect/install (probably won't change the current I.D. issue).
Those parameters are controlled by the cards vbios, in theory should not be an issue.
Aye - I will try a full DDU no internet, safe mode - I wouldn't like to go down the vbios rabbit hole, how would a vbios get corrupted to mis-identify? I can't say I have a virus, if I have, Avast & windows has not detected it + there is no other symptoms. Could a motherboard bios update affect a vbios?
Vbios parameters as in, vram/boost/watts, etc.... Did not mean or mention corruption of vbios.
The card should still perform as per the MSI vbios.
