I made the mistake a year ago of buying an xfx rs rx 480 for a mini itx build. In a game like the witcher 3 at 1440p, it stays between 80 and 89 C with the fans spinning at a bit higher than 2000rpm.

On idle, until recently I didn't have any problems. The temps never went higher than 60 C and the fans didn't have to spin at all. But all of the sudden the card is staying at 85 C on idle even with the fans up to almost the same speed as in game. What could be the problem?

Build: msi z170 stinger, i5-6600k, cryorig h7, seasonic bronze 600w psu, corsair vengeance 8gb, fractal design define nano s, xfx rs rx 480 4gb

Run GPU-Z and see what clocks the card is running at when idle.  If its running full tilt then there might be some malware causing it.

I ran gpu-z and it's running at full clock.  Then I scanned the pc with an antivirus but it didn't detect anything. What's the next step?
